Sony Set for an Epic Year in 2011
2010 is almost over with a few smaller releases still pending this year while the bigger games have all just came out i.e. the long awaited for Gran Turismo 5.
Each year for the PS3 has been more epic than the last and I find myself asking… “Can Sony really pull of an even better year?” So I sat down and did a little research on the games we know, the hardware we know and the ones we don’t know and let me tell you, I have a list, a very long list of awesome, exclusive games set for 2011.
Keep in mind that we have already been teased by Sony several times of many unannounced titles that will release in 2011 that we don’t even know exist yet!

Not much is known about the Agent, but it is developed by Rockstar Games and is exclusive to the PS3 so that bring a lot of attention to this title and will be one to watch for in the near future.

Ar tonelico Qoga is the final installment in the Ar tonelico series. The story takes place in Sol Cluster, a kingdom ruled by an organization called Clustania and their ultimate goal is to enslave humans and rule the world. However, the two key Reyvateils (humanoids) they need to accomplish their goal meet Aoto and fight back against injustice.

An action-based MMO from Sony Online’s Austin studio takes place in the worlds of DC based comic book superheroes and villains. This is designed to be a fast paced action MMO where epic battles take place against many DC comic book heroes.

The silly yet addictive SRPG from NIS continues yet again on the PS3 with a new graphics engine and fighting system. If you like silly humor and many euphemism’s, this game is for you!

The 2nd large scale MMO brought from SE in the Final Fantasy name is set to release on the PS3 in March. Its currently out on the PC but due to the requirements it takes, many people are waiting to pick this up on the console.

One of the worlds first kid friendly MMO’s and its coming to the PS3. Free Realms is for the family and allows you to do what you want, when you want in a lush, living, 3D world, filled with rich landscapes and fun wildlife. There are several mini-games for the children and family.

This game is an RPG on the PS3 about video game companies personified as moe moe girls… Yes the ellipses is me rolling my eyes at myself for typing that sentence. Anyways, they will be fighting an evil villan known as Arfoire and wreaking havoc on a world called Gamindustri. Made by the company that brought Trinity Universe to the PS3, the game features personifications of Sega, Nintendo, Son and Microsoft.

The one and only Infamous takes place in New Marais where Cole is in search of a scientist whom he believes holds a key to stopping a new evil beast that is laying waste to Empire City.

Another artsy PSN game from thatgamecompany brings to us an exotic adventure with a more serious tone. Journey presents a unique vision of an online adventure experience. Awakening in an unknown world, the player walks, glides and flies through vast jaw dropping landscapes while discovering ancient and mysterious civilizations along the way.

Not much needs to be said here about this game as we all are pretty familiar with it I’m sure. The storyline will continue directly where Killzone 2 left off and needless to say there will be plenty of Helghan baddies left to take out.

Another game that speaks for itself. This game is everything the original LBP was plus more. Tons of mini games and user created worlds all backwards compatible with the ones created from the original. Many hours of fun are to be had here.

The next iteration of Sony’s MLB with 3D support and much more. Sony explains that if you ever wanted to know what it felt like looking out from home plate staring at the outfield wall 350 feet away, just play this game and you will.

The next series of the survival racing series that brings next gen graphics to great controls. This version takes place in coastal cities after having done dust-bowls and jungles in previous versions.

Originally released in 2005, Oddworld Strangers Wrath will be re-released on the PS3 with a ton of enhancements including stunning 720p visuals, improved character modeling, re-mastered dialogue, support for Playstation Move and additional bonus material.

Playstation Move Heroes brings some of Playstation’s most beloved characters from three of its most iconic franchises together. Ratchet, Clank, Jak, Daxter, Sly and Bently ban up together to defeat an villainous duo in the wildly humorous adventure for the Playstation Move.

In the very first online coop multiplayer Ratchet and Clank, we find our heroes in the midst of a dilemma of intergalactic proportions when Dr. Nefarious’ latest evil plan goes awry leaving Ratchet, Clank, Qwark and Nefarious himself caught in the snare of a powerful and mysterious machine.

Resistance 3 is promised to deliver a different experience then R1 or R2 before it. In addition to online coop modes, a change in the tone of the game will be apparent as well. Nathan Hale will not be in R3 (avoiding spoilers) but the main protagonist will be Joe Capelli.

Playstation Move compatible SOCOM 4 takes place in South East Asia where a revolutionary army has seized control of a country bordering one of the world’s most vital waterways. Zipper Interactive is back and promising a great game for fans.

Shown at E3 for the first time, this game shows up Playstation Move’s ability to have full 1:1 motions instead of using gestures in motion controlled games. Taking control of the elements, you cast spells by putting your whole body into being a powerful sorcerer.

Long awaited, hugely popular, highly gossiped, (two games I never played..don’t kill me) is about to make…err remake it entrance onto the PS3. Two very important PS3 classics from Sony, Ico and Shadow of Colossus, will be remade in high def and released on the PS3 as a collection blu-ray game.

A fast-paced, action shooter MMO is coming to the PS3 and bringing the world of super spies with it. The Agency is designed to provide instant action and long-term strategy for all fans of espionage and spy games.

The game better known as “WHY ARE YOU SO FAR AWAY?!?!”, is set to claim fans with its adorable gigantic cat like griffon creature. Solving puzzles in this beautiful artistic world is something many of us can’t wait for.

From Eat Sleep Play and developer David Jaffe, Twisted Metal is finally on the horizons and in sight. Many of us knew it was bound to happen sooner or later despite Jaffe’s constant “I WISH I was developing Twisted Metal” remarks. Get ready to kill some clowns in this online multiplayer drive by shoot’em up game.

Set in a fully realized, authentic recreation of Tokyo’s “Sin-City District” the deep and interweaving crime drama of Yakuza 4 unfolds through the eyes of four unique and dangerous characters. Full of mini games and drama, fans showed Sega that this game is needed in America.

One of three games from the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, this game plays through the life of a young king sworn to defend the last crystal from the “hectic order” outside of his kingdom. As for now this game is exclusive but it may very well go multiplatform in the future. Only time will tell.

A collaboration between the powerhouse videogame development studio Level-5 and the beloved animation company Studio Ghibli, Ni no Kuni puts players in the role of a 13 year old boy whose mother dies as a result of his actions. This leads him on an adventure with the help of a fairy to save his mother.

We all know its coming…we all are drooling for it…Uncharted 3 is set to be announced hopefully soon and if there is a God, it will be released in 2011 to follow Nathan Drake through yet another adventure.

A sequel to the great PSP fighter that brought the fanboy and fangirls the greatest fighting game ever where they can pit their favorite Final Fantasy characters against each other. This sequel will bring more characters to our control including Lightning from FFXIII.

The first of what I am sure will be many blurry PSP2 pix has surfaced recently showing off what might be new features the current PSP lacks. In the blurry picture many say they can see both a forward and rear facing camera, a microphone, dual analog stick and a rear touch pad. Rumors are pointing to its announcement at E3 2011 and hopefully released by the Holidays.

Recent rumors of this phone are heating up. We know the phone exists, its features, carrier and model is what eludes us. Its believed to be an Android 3.0 possibly coming to TMobile in North America. Its also rumored that it will not play normal PSP games, but another branch of game entirely. I’ve heard January and February as possible release months in 2011.
