The original game had a cast and story that was widely praised as one of the best in the series, and this PlayStation®Vita version offers players a chance to relive that adventure on the go, and with brand-new content! Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited comes packed with a new tier of spells, new characters, skills, story, and the great sense of humor you’ve come to love. Create your own political party and take advantage of a slew of new battle and strategic features expanding upon the already staggering replay value. Grab your PS Vita and stop the Corrupternment’s evil doings with the power of…sardines?

Disgaea 4, the great strategy RPG released on 2011 on the PS3 is now available in a great port on the PS Vita with more content and rebalanced gameplay in a portable package that makes the most of Sony’s console on the go.

The game’s first episode works as an introduction to Valvatorez, the main character for the game, a vampire who used to be a tyrant overlord and who now refuses to drink human blood, instead opting for the nutritious properties of sardines and all their great Omega-3 content. This first part of the game also presents a gameplay tutorial between story segments so that people new to the series can understand the basics and strategies required to not be completely decimated in a few seconds.

As Prinny instructor, Valvatorez works hard every day so that the new recruits (the embodiment of the souls of sinners) can live up to what is expected of a Prinny, something that is evident from the start when a Prinny forgets to use Dood in every single sentence. Of course, when a mysterious force kidnaps all Prinnies from the latest graduating class, Valvatorez goes out of his way to find what is going on, because he made a promise to those Prinnies, a promise of sardines!

Veterans to the series can decide to skip the explanations since this IS the fourth release in the main series (and as stated before, a port of the PS3 version), since all the classic mechanics are still present. As for the basics, these include learning about deploying units, moving, attacking, using skills, carrying and throwing other units, creating a tower of units (which can be used to to quickly send units flying all over the map or, new to the game, to attack with massive damage), and generally being awesome.

Some important mechanics for this entry include Demon Fusion, where demons come together to form a larger demon that is stronger but takes more space in the field and is easier to target, and Magichange which allows units to use demons as weapons! And yes, you CAN use Magichange to equip a huge monster from a Demon Fusion, exponentially increasing the potential destruction. And let’s not forget about Peta spells, awesomely-powerful attack and defense spells that are wonderful, feel wonderful and look wonderful. There are other things we could discuss here (Pirate ships! Conquering lands!) but I believe it’s better that players stumble upon these new elements so that they can fully enjoy it!

Without going into the rest of the story (as to not spoil anything), let’s just say that things are as weird, crazy and fun as on other Disgaea games, and then some. Those that have already played the PS3 version will be happy to know that this new version includes an all new scenario with a new story, new characters and new everything. Did I mention it’s new?

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited improves on the original release, including more content and a rebalanced experience in a tight portable package (as was the case for Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention). If you’re a fan of the series then this is must-buy, and if you’re not then this is an excellent jump-in point to get you ready for Disgaea 5.
