[Zen Pinball 2 Vita Review] Star Wars - The Force Awakens Pinball Pack
Star Wars – The Force Awakens Pinball Pack is a compilation of a few different Pinball Tables for Zen Pinball. As is the case with other Zen Pinball releases, this purchase allows you to download the table on all your Playstation devices!
Aaah Star Wars! Over the past few years, I’ve gotten used to watching every movie of this series each Christmas Holiday. It became sort of a tradition at home since we’ve done it for so long. Everyone has gone crazy with the theatrical release of the last movie a few weeks ago, and hopefully livened up to its hype! As you can guess, I was very excited to try out this new Star Wars-themed pinball pack!
One of the first things that I noticed is that the Star Wars pinball tables comes in a different application on the Vita. Instead of going with the Zen Pinball 2 application that traditionally hosts the pinballs tables, this time, Star Wars Pinball comes as a standalone application.
As soon as you boot the game, you are greeted by a question that feels familiar in the Star Wars universe: Will you choose the Light or the Dark side? Selecting one side or the other gives you “experience” that goes towards your Sith or Jedi level (which awards trophies, and is displayed on the main screen of this game, for all your friends to see!). Trophies are also awarded when you “level up” your current Sith or Jedi level.
As for the tables themselves, there are two included in this pack: The Force Awakens and Might of the First Order.
The Force Awakens was cool to play, and there are of course some events that can be triggered through your game, and one of them involves octopus-like creatures that must be dealt with. Another event I loved was when a big cargo ship came down and hitting his crosshair with the ball gave me a LOT of points! I did think that the ball was a hard to follow since the board had a sandy background, but other than that, it was very good!
The second pinball table is Might of the First Order: This board feels more classical than the previous one, and is also a blast to play. One of the greatest features of this board is a mini-game that allows you to play a sub-pinball game within the board itself – on what feels like a lower level of it. Playing there gives you a lot of points! I also triggered an event where two people were fighting in the foreground. It was a cool table, but I think I preferred the Force Awaken between the two tables in this pack.!
As for the package itself, both boards use some of the original soundtrack, and sound effects from the movies, and then voiced segments use the real voices of the original actors. After playing fo while o PS Vita, I can confirm that the loadings times were surprisingly long – long enough that the console one time dimmed it’s backlight as I waited to play some pinball.
If you are a Star Wars fan, and are already familiar with Zen Pinball, do not hesitate to pick this one since you’ll love it, and if you have just started to get into the Star Wars craze, then this is a perfect companion where you can enjoy a great game of pinball with a great Star Wars feel.
