[Review Revisited] Day of the Tentacle Remastered

Day of the Tentacle Remastered

With Day of the Tentacle Remastered now part of this month’s PS+ free games, I thought it would be the perfect time to revisit this revamped classic. It’s a classic for a reason, and now more people will get a chance to see how great it is!

Day of the Tentacle Remasted is an enhanced port of a classic game from Tim Schaffer. The game has been remastered by the fine folk at Double Fine, who developed the charming and fun Broken Age – and who game the excellent Grim Fandango new life in Grim Fandango Remastered.

Day of the Tentacle was one of the few adventure games I missed when I was younger. Somehow I missed it between playing and greatly enjoying Full Throttle, Monkey Island, The Dig, Maniac Mansion and more point and click classics. This meant I was thrilled when I heard about being able to review the remaster. I had such a good time that I ended up unlocking its Platinum trophy!

The game is funny, witty, smart and too good for its own good. Very few games could attain the cohesion of having three main characters in three different time periods working together so well. It’s a masterclass in storytelling and gaming in general.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered - 1

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is free on PS+ for the month of January, so you have no excuse for not playing it. Enjoy your time with this masterpiece as you work towards figuring out its puzzles – if you use your head they shouldn’t be too difficult since they’re not as obscure as the puzzles from other adventure releases of the era.
