[Beyond PlayStation] Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack Review
Inti Creates is back on Nintendo Switch, and this time they’re bringing us a compilation of both Azure Striker Gunvolt games. Learn more in our Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack review!
The Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack is a compilation of the Azure Striker series, which includes Azure Striker Gunvolt and its sequel Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, both of which stand on their own but do share some DNA with the Mega Man series. This pair of games were originally released for the Nintendo 3DS, and now the series has been ported to the Nintendo Switch. Due to the Switch’s play anywhere philosophy, you can still play on the go, but also on a much bigger screen, and in HD at 60 fps! The resolution improvements have created some very pleasing visuals, so you will not be disappointed.
Are you a fan of the Mega Man franchise? Then you will certainly love the Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack as it’s very similar in terms of gameplay and platforming mechanics, not to mention that the bosses are just as epic! Gameplay is basically the same in both games, with the differences in the second game being that you have a second character to spice things up. As for the core mechanics, as Gunvolt you shoot to tag your enemies and then unleash your flash field to fry them with electricity. The more tags that are on an enemy, the more damage you can deal in one go. The stages can be lengthy and provide a decent amount of satisfaction, challenge-wise. You will be treated to some fun boss battles and clever platforming sections that are very entertaining.
Both games offer up all DLC that has been released to date, and this includes additional bonus stages, new modes, new soundtracks, new epic bosses to face off against, and more. There is quite a lot on offer for one small price, so between having all DLC available from the start for free and the bump in visuals, you’re getting quite a deal with this dual pack.
Another detail I wanted to mention is the HD rumble feature for the games, which is pretty awesome. You can adjust the HD rumble’s strength, which is a nice touch, so that you can find the setting that feels right for you. After tinkering around with the rumble options, I felt the HD rumble was strong enough at the default setting, so I left it as is to experience both games.
I did not have the pleasure of playing the 3DS version of either game, so I am unable to make direct comparisons and weigh up the pros and cons of this pair of Nintendo Switch upgrades. What is easy to see is that having the one screen changes things a bit to how you can play on the Nintendo 3DS and its pair of screens, but it’s a change that does not get in the way –It’s mostly going to be a matter of taste.
All in all with both games included, all DLC, new music, upgraded visuals and more, the Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker pack on Nintendo Switch is a release that I highly recommend you buy. The gameplay mechanics and story are very entertaining, and having both games in a single release is very convenient. If you’re a fan of the beloved Mega Man series, then you need to give this one a go today!
