[Beyond PlayStation] Violett Review
Violett from Forever Entertainment is a clever point and click adventure game that pays homage to the classic formula of the genre in a new game on Nintendo Switch. Learn more about it in our Violett review!
For this game, you play as the titular Violett, a girl who has recently moved and who feels a bit lost and depressed due to the big change in her life to an old and spooky house. One night she somehow finds herself in front of a mysterious and magical portal that transports her to a faraway realm. She, unfortunately, starts her adventure in this new land by being trapped inside of a cage. Before she can explore her surroundings she must first find a way out of her current predicament, and it then that you must step in to point and click at everything in the room to find a solution to the puzzle at hand.
The game has a nice art style that makes every new area you visit pop with detail and a great mix of colors. Violett also tells its story by having you interact with other characters by way of conversations in which images will give you hints for what you need to do next. You can either play on the TV by using the Joy-Con or the Pro controller to move a cursor around to interact with things or characters, or you can play in Handheld or Tabletop mode and use the Switch’s touchscreen to click all over the screen. On that note, be sure to click everywhere to find hidden objects on top of the items you need to find to solve puzzles – that is if you want to 100% the game.
If you feel like stuck and have no idea of what to do next or how one object might interact with another, you can use the game’s generous hint system to get a nudge in the right direction. You won’t be told the answer to a puzzle, but the hints are good enough as to let you figure out what step you’re missing in a particular sequence.
For example, in one room there’s a big caterpillar in the middle that is being attacked by nasty spiders, so you need to find a way to keep them from entering the room so that the caterpillar can open a door that will allow you to talk to him as well as exit the room through the window to a new area. Can you find all the ways to keep the spiders out?
Violett is a fun point and click game that doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it is a release that will keep you entertained from start to finish. The game’s great look and clever puzzles will keep you coming back for more, and the control options will make it so that you can easily play the game either at home or on the go with quick a solid point and click interface that pays homage to the classics while also giving you some improvements over the general formula.
