Vertical Strike Endless Challenge Trailer | Nintendo Switch
A flight-based action game designed to be easy to pick up and enjoy right away, and playable over short timeframes.
Take advantage of the myriad weapon combinations at your disposal and achieve dangerously high levels of maneuverability by disabling your Alpha Limiter to spear your way through waves of enemy attacks.
There are two game modes: “Arcade Mode: Anti-Air” and “Arcade Mode: Anti-Ship.” Select your weapons carefully to secure your path to victory!
VERTICAL STRIKE ENDLESS CHALLENGE on the Nintendo Switch is a new aerial combat game. The game basically has two modes for you to tak on: air to air combat, and one that has you focusing on air to land attacks. And… that’s about it! This is very much an old-school arcade game where focusing on getting the best score is the goal. Although a big miss seems to be an online leaderboard, so you and your friends can compete for the top score.
As the game is endless, you literally play until you die. You will fight wave upon wave of enemies with the occasional boss fight thrown in switch it up. Each time you play to try and get a better score. During my aerial combat runs I found the combat to be good, and you also have the ability to customize your plane and loadout before going out, allowing for some differences in gameplay.
The graphics are an issue though. The game is a port of a mobile game, and it shows. The planes look fine (not great but not terrible), but everything overall is… a bit off. Specifically, I’m going to call out the land and water which look like a bad set of textures mashing up against each other. It might have worked on a smaller screen, but when playing on my Nintendo Switch, especially when playing the console in Docked mode on your TV.
Final Thoughts
VERTICAL STRIKE ENDLESS CHALLENGE is a competent aerial combat game, but the barebones presentation and subpar graphics hurt it. You will have fun chasing a new top score, but you can’t chase and fight against other people, and that’s disappointing. If you are looking for an air to air and air to land battle game and have that itch scratched, then this may do the trick.
