Review Revisited - Atellier Shallie

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea was released on PlayStation 3 in 2015, and it marked the final release in the Dusk trilogy arc, a trilogy that began with Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk (a very fun game that was later ported to the PlayStation Vita as Atelier Ayesha Plus: The Alchemist of Dusk). With Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, the first entry in this long-running series, making it’s way to the PlayStation 4 next month, I figured this would be the perfect time for us to revisit Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea!

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea gives players the option to select between two main characters to play as, each one offering a different story and quest to play (offering great replay value overall). The funny thing is that while the full name of each main character is different (Shallistera and Shallotte), both characters are nicknamed Shallie, hence the name of the game!

Atelier Shallie - 1

This release in the Atelier series provides one big change to the franchise formula, making it feel like a completely new experience. Previous games featured a strict time limit for each season, and every time you traveled to and from each of the locations on the field and every time you gathered ingredients, time would pass in-game, reducing the overall number of actions you could take. Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea completely removes this restriction, which might bother some of the diehard fans for the series, but it is definitely a welcomed changed that will make it easier to see everything the game has to offer.
