[Beyond PlayStation] Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition Review
Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition from Lienzo is now available on the Nintendo Switch. Find out more about this purrrific Metroidvania in our Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition review!
Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition is a Metroidvania that lets you play as Ikki, a huntress out on a mission to save her kingdom from evil. With an array of skills you will unlock as you go, plenty of enemies to defeat and many secrets to uncover, this game will have you cruising around the land to fight off villains and monsters for hours through its many colorful environments
At first, as is the case for most entries in the genre, your repertoire of abilities and weapons is very limited, with nothing more than your trusty swords and a dodging roll to make you’re the enemies and puzzles the game throws at you. But as you progresses in the game you will find more weapons with special abilities that will let you get to new zones you weren’t able to before. This, of course, means there’s a fair amount of backtracking and exploring, but this is a much more forgiving experience than other games of this type. But when you have magical arrows that can make things explode, everything can be a lot more fun.
The art style doesn’t feel unique or remarkable at first, but I do have to say that the characters are rather eye-catching for their kind of bizarre look. The music, while not groundbreaking, is enjoyable and fits the gameplay as well. The sound effects, however… well, let’s just say you will hear Ikki grunt a lot through the game. Even if this is a Metroidvania with some adventuring going on, the game has quite a bit of well-written narrative to make the kingdom and its history truly feel alive and tangible. This, however, can be missed if you don’t look for it, so make sure to keep an eye out for everything you can interact with. When you put all of this together, it creates an enjoyable game experience to enjoy on your own one afternoon.
Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition is a good game that plays it safe with the Metroidvania formula that has proven to work over the years, which means it can appeal to both those who love the genre and players who want a friendlier and more forgiving experience. With a fair amount of hours-worth of content you can squeeze out of this experience depending on your skill level, it’s certainly a good addition to any game library, especially if you are looking for more solo experiences to add to your daily gaming diet.
This Hunter’s Legacy: Purrfect Edition is based on a Nintendo Switch copy provided by Lienzo.
