[PS4] Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! Review
Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! is a very fun and addictive cooking and management game on PS4 that you have to try. Find out why in our Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! review!
This is the sequel to Cook, Serve, Delicious!, and that means you’ll start your run with the game as if you had played the previous one since you’ll be the owner of a highly acclaimed platinum star restaurant in SherriSoda Tower. Sounds great, right? Well, this lasts all of two seconds since as soon as you press A to move the story forward you will realize that federal agents have seized the tower and all businesses inside of it. Why? Because the company executives were siphoning funds from the corporation, so the tower and everything is put up for federal auction.
You might feel down about this, but a good chef should never feel defeated, so off you go and buy a small spot on the 52nd floor of the Teragon Tower, the biggest skyscraper in the city and one with a ton of tenants that probably want to get some food! It is time to start a new Cook, Serve, Delicious! Restaurant, even if it means spending everything you have on it so that you can start to build your finances so that you can expand your culinary expertise as you try and establish your legacy as the best chef in the world.
If this is your first time playing a Cook, Serve, Delicious! game, then you should take a few minutes to complete the tutorial lessons the game has to offer. You’ll be done in less than 10 minutes total, and you will learn how to review orders so that you can see the recipe and understand which ingredients are needed to create your masterpieces. You do this by holding down the L2 and R2 buttons to highlight the ingredients section and then press the face buttons that correspond to each one of the ingredients on the list. Once you’re done, you can press the X button to serve the order to hopefully please your customers.
Some of the dishes will be easy to make since they will use only a handful of ingredients, as is the case for the nachos you make during the tutorial, but other dishes will require some extra work so that you can serve them right. The tutorial will teach you how to make a burger, which starts with you cooking the meat on the grill so that it’s cooked just right. Once the meat is ready, you can start to put together the burger by placing the meat and other ingredients as requested by customers, to finish it off with the right type of bun. Depending on how accurately you place ingredients on the food, and if the food is fully cooked, you will get a Perfect (yellow smiling faces), Average (blue meh faces), or Bad (red angry faces) rating. You should always aim at getting a perfect rating!
At the top of the screen, you have the holding stations which are there to help make things easier for you when there are many customers to serve. The holding station will have more than one portion of the food you’ve made, so every time you fulfill an order, one piece will be deducted from it. You need to be aware of how as the day goes on, the food o the holding station will lose some of its freshness – this is represented by a clock below the food item. Once the clock runs out, you must throw away the food. Serving stations are great for serving many customers in a row, which will allow you to do a combo thanks to your speedy delivery.
As customers arrive, you will need to pay attention to their patience meter, since this signals how long they are willing to wait for their order to be completed. If you want to boost a customer’s patience, you should make some side dishes so that you can have some extra time to take care of the main orders. Each unique side dish you have on the holding stations will add an extra 15 seconds to the patience meter, up to 45 seconds in total. Sure, 45 seconds might not sound like a lot, but it’s actually a must for this game. Having at least one side dish might save you from mild embarrassment while having three could save your day!
On top of dishes, you can also have drinks to boost your overall income. Each drink item has a set number of available uses before you have to refill it, and if a client gets a drink, a side dish, and a perfectly cooked dish, you will get a Delicious rating, which will give you some nice tips and a boost to your overall rating. You also need to be on top of keeping a clean restaurant, so you need to be aware of how many chores you need to perform to keep everything in tip-top shape. Some fishes produce a lot of trash, while others have a bit cleaner process. Fail to do a chore, and you will get a sick rating, which hurts worse than a bad rating!
Chores will include things such as cleaning the toilet, washing the many plates your customers will use to consume the delicious dishes you cook, extinguishing fires, dealing with rat infestations, cleaning the pest light by opening the trap, closing it, and then sanitizing your hands, taking out the trash, mashing it down if needed so that it can fit in the container, setting up roach traps, and even dealing with criminals who are up to no good and want to rob your restaurant and steal your hard-earned cash!
With every Perfect or Delicious rating that you get, you will have your buzz increase, and this directly impacts how many customers visit your restaurant per hour, determining how many potential customers you’ll have for the day. Buzz will only be affected by how you perform in your Cook, Serve, Delicious! restaurant, and it won’t be impacted by how well you do when working in other restaurants as a work for hire.
As you can probably tell by now, I had a lot of fun playing Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!! for this review. The game has a very addictive gameplay loop, and a ton of content to play! And if you want to take a shot at getting the Platinum trophy, you’re going to have to practice a lot since the game pretty much demands perfection for that Platinum! You’re looking at 60+ hours if you’re familiar with the previous game, and the Platinum can take 100+ hours to get depending on your skill. Are you up for the challenge?
