Did you like our YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world review? If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can do so by clicking right here. With that out of the way, it’s time for a bonus mini-review! As I mentioned yesterday, if you buy a physical copy of YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world at retail and it’s one of the Day 1 edition, your box will include a voucher with a code you can redeem at the Nintendo Eshop for a free download of 8-BIT YU-NO’S GREAT ADVENTURE, a bonus 2D action platformer.
You’ll move around with the left analog stick or the D-Pad, jumping with the B button and attacking with the B button. If you press the X button, you can switch into ADaMS Mode (Active Diverge and Multiverse System) as long as you have an orb on you. You can also ride on top of Kun-Kun, a charming dragon who acts as Yu-No’s companion, as you both take to the skies. If Kun-Kun is around and Yu-No accidentally falls down a hole, Kun-Kun will come to her rescue.
The game is an autoscrolling 2D action platformer, which means that enemies can be defeated with Yu-No’s energy sword attacks, and some of them can be defeated by jumping on top of them – this will require some trial and error since it won’t apply to every enemy that you face up against. To go along with the Super Mario Bros. vibe, Yu-No will start out as a small character, but once you get hold of an apple, she will grow in size and be able to withstand an extra hit.
After defeating enemies or when hitting item boxes, items will appear. You can collect items such as an Egg which helps you summon Kun-Kun, the aforementioned apple with turns kid Yu-No into adult Yu-No, making her a bit more powerful and helping to regain some of the lost hit points, or a piece of meat which will completely recover your hit points while also increasing your overall hit point count. Other items you can find in this game will include a sword that boosts Yu-No’s attack power, a piece of rope that will allow you to jump out of a pit, or a very powerful magical stone that can fully recover all of your life for the first and only time when your hit points are reduced to zero, to name some examples.
8-BIT YU-NO’S GREAT ADVENTURE is a fun 2D game on Nintendo Switch that features a completely different setup and gameplay mechanics in comparison to YU-NO: A girl who chants love at the bound of this world, and it’s even better as a free 8-bit bonus for buying the physical Nintendo Switch version of YU-NO at retail. I hope you have as much fun with it as I did!
