Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep from Artifex Mundi places you in the role of a psychiatrist with a particular set of skills that are quite out of the ordinary. You see, it seems that your character has the ability to travel into the dream realm to aid others in taking on their demons. This set of skills is put to good use in Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep since you will be tasked with helping the Mayor’s daughter, who has fallen into a coma after an accident. Since local physicians have not been able to find a way to bring her back, and with no other options, the Mayor decides to turn to you.
The first scene in the game will act as the tutorial for Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep, since you will have to use everything the game has to offer to reanimate the poor woman who has just flatlined. This will be the only sequence I will spoil since it’s the tutorial. You will move the cursor around the screen to find points to interact with so that you can either collect items for your inventory or trigger a new puzzle to solve. For this particular sequence, you must first give her some oxygen to stabilize her so that you can then zoom in on the tray next to the bed so that you can grab a handful of items that will help you heal her enough to have her heart pumping.
This involves grabbing a bandaid and an otoscope, so that you can use the otoscope to break the crystal door of the cabinet on the back of the room, in order to grab the defibrillator. Once you get it, you’ll have to rush and use it on the patient so that you can revive her before it’s too late! After this sequence, you’ll be ready to start with your supernatural experience. You’ll have to solve a puzzle in which you’ll rotate pieces to complete an image that will open the path into the patient’s dreamworld, hence the game’s name.
Since this is a point and click adventure game with hidden object puzzles, you’ll be moving a cursor around the screen as you try to interact with objects with the X button, collecting any useful items for your journey, which will be placed in your inventory. Some of these items will need to be examined after being placed in your inventory so that you can obtain extra items from them, or combine them with other items to be able to progress through each location. These particular items will be marked with a + sign to let you know there’s one extra step to complete.
As you move from room to room in each location that you’ll visit, you will need to be alert for the collectibles that you can find during your time with Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep. There are going to be 32 fluffy sheep to collect, which will appear and disappear in most of the rooms that you explore. You will also find many notes, postcards, and stamps hidden in the scenery, or below other objects, so as long as you take your time to search in each area and click on all objects, you’ll be good to go.
For every new area that you visit, you should keep your eyes open so that you can spot the three different collectibles that are up for grabs – that is if you want to 100% the game and get a bunch of trophies along the way (more on these in a bit). There are many hats to collect, some old-school floppy disks to collect – these were used as physical storage media way back in the day -, as well as some objects that will morph from whatever they are into a smoking pipe. They will change to the pipe and back to their regular look, and you can only collect them when they look like a pipe.
Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy to aim for. There are trophies for finding the hidden collectibles in the game, a bunch for progressing through the story, for completing one of the minigames in less than a minute, for never skipping any of the minigames, completing a hidden object puzzle game without using hints, completing three hidden object puzzles in a row without more than five mistakes in each one, or finding three items in a hidden object puzzle within three seconds, to name some examples.
Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep is another solid point and click adventure from Artifex Mundi that looks great and is fun to play on PlayStation 4, with plenty of collectibles to find and a Platinum trophy for trophy hunters out there, all wrapped in a story with a supernatural twist. Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep is out on PlayStation 4 for $14.99.
