The Secret Order: Shadow Breach is a new adventure game from Artifex Mundi on PlayStation 4. An entity known as Odessa came to the world, enslaving people across every land she stepped on. She defeated every army that dared to try and fight against her until one day, a brave knight with magical armaments managed to stab her, imprisoning her inside of an ancient almanac, which was hidden in the depths of a cave, to be forgotten by time. Unfortunately, someone has found the almanac and is once again ready to unleash Odessa’s wrath upon the world! The Dragon Clan is the one in possession of the almanac, and you must do whatever it takes to stop them before it’s too late. You’ll be playing as Sarah, a member of the Order of the Griffins, who is now taking on her seventh adventure!
You’ll control a cursor on the screen with the left analog stick, using the right one to move it at a slower pace for when you need to click on something smaller. You can interact with the X button, which will be used as part of the whole point and click gameplay combo. You can collect items to solve puzzles. These items will be added to your inventory, which you can check with the L2 or RR2 buttons. For this game, you’ll have a magic bracelet that will aid you on your journey, which can be activated at specific times by pressing down on the D-Pad. If you’re ever stuck and need a hint – or want to skip a particularly troublesome puzzle – you can do so by pressing up on the D-Pad.
For The Secret Order: Shadow Breach, there will be two collectibles for you to keep your eyes on as you explore each new area that you visit. One of them will be a set of glowing artifacts that pop in and out of the scene, which is why you shouldn’t rush things as you enter a new area. The other ones will be a variety of scrolls that are also hidden in each new location that you visit. Between the two, you’re looking at almost 50 collectibles to find if you want to 100% this particular game!
Remember that I said there’s an option for skipping puzzles or using hints if needed? Well, you do need to know that if you do one or the other, it will keep you from obtaining the Platinum trophy for The Secret Order: Shadow Breach in a single run, so do keep this in mind! As for the rest of the trophies that this release has to offer, you’ll get most of them for progressing through the game’s story, with some related to completing four minigames in 60 seconds or less, completing two hidden object puzzles in a row without any mistakes, for finishing all hidden object puzzles without using any hints, and for finding all of the collectibles.
If you’re a fan of adventure games and of other Artifex Mundi releases on PlayStation 4, then you’re going to feel right at home with The Secret Order: Shadow Breach. It looks great, controls wonderfully, and offers an experience that can be completed in a handful of hours, as well as a Platinum trophy for trophy hunters to work on. The Secret Order: Shadow Breach is out on PS4 with a $14.99 asking price.
