Sequel Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice is ready to go on PlayStation 4. Learn more in our Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice review!

I got a chance to review Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry a couple of years ago on Nintendo Switch, a revival of the classic point and click adventure series, so I was definitely up for checking out the sequel from Assemble Entertainment and CrazyBunch. Before that, the last game in the series had been released back in 2009, so it was definitely time for a new take – not considering the Leisure Suit Reloaded, which was a Kickstarter-funded port of the original game in the Larry series.

Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice Review - 1

The franchise got its start way back in 1987 with Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, making him a character from another time and another era, with jokes, sexualization, and a sense of humor to match. It’s now 2021, and Larry Laffer hasn’t really changed much since in the last game, we got to see him being transported into our future. If you haven’t played the previous game in the series, you can get a recap from the man sitting next to Larry at the start of Wet Dreams Dry Twice.

For this new point and click adventure, you’ll be joined by Pi, the AI in your high-tech state-of-the-art PiPhone. Since it follows directly after the events from the prequel Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, you’ll start with Larry stuck in Cancúm. It turns out he’s being forced to marry the chief village’s daughter. Larry has not forgotten about Faith, so he tries to find a way to escape so that he can search for Faith and make amends for all the mistakes he made the last time… no matter the cost. It’s now up to you to help him by finding lots of items and completing a series of puzzles.

You’ll be moving Larry around with the left analog stick. You can use the right stick to move a cursor around the screen so that you can interact with items or other characters by pressing the X button. If you can’t find what or who you should be interacting with, you can press in on the left and right analog sticks at the same time to make all objects, characters, and exits light up. Once you interact with someone, there will usually be different conversation options for you to open up new dialogue paths.

Interacting with objects will collect anything that can be useful, which will be added to your inventory. You can take a closer look at things by highlighting them with the cursor and pressing the Square button. You can also check out any items in your inventory with the Square button and can quickly open and close the inventory with the Circle button. You can also access your inventory from the PiPhone menu, which can be opened by pressing the Touchpad on your DualShock 4. Be sure to cycle between all of the interactive objects on the screen by using the L2 and R2 buttons to move counterclockwise or clockwise so that you can locate all useful items. The more items you have, the easier it will be to find the right ones to combine in order to complete your objectives. Some items can’t be collected, but you can take a photo of them with the X button when the camera icon shows up in the upper right corner.

To give you an idea of what you’ll run into and as to not heavily spoil the game, I’ll talk about an early quest you’re given right after you’re introduced to Larry. He’ll have to complete the plans for a wedding, which just happens to be for him to marry El Rey’s daughter! But Larry is still in love with Faith, so he decides he should at least light a candle to Faith, hoping that she’s still alive after what happened at the end of the previous game. This means he’ll have to find a candle – which is conveniently located in his room – as well as something to light it up with. There are some matches on top of the TV, so grab those, go into your inventory, select the candle with the left analog stick to hold it in your hand, and then combine the matches with the candle by pressing the Triangle button… and you’re set!

Your PiPhone will have a special app with a To-Do list so that you can get an overview of the tasks you need to take on and have still not completed. Once a task has been completed, Pi will let you know that it’s been taken care of so that you can carry on with your adventure and take on a new objective. At the start of the game, this will include fixing El Rey’s guitar since it’s missing a string, taking care of the catering for the wedding, and getting a hold of Larry’s wedding suit for the big event.

Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice Review - 4

As for the trophies, Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you. That’s the good news. The bad news is that you need to play the game from start to finish at least twice since there is a pair of trophies that cancel each other out. One asks that you complete the game while wearing Larry’s regular outfit, while the other requires that you complete it while wearing the wedding outfit. On top of this, there are a couple of instances during which you’ll need to make a choice that will cancel out another option, locking you out of getting that trophy for that run. You can handle this by managing your save files properly but, in the end, if you’re going to trophy hunt, you better check out this trophy guide to speed things up on your end.

If you liked Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry, then you’re going to enjoy Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice. It features the same great art style from the prequel, solid voice acting, and plenty of puzzles to solve. A short adventure this is not. You’re looking at around 20 hours or so to see everything that the game has to offer, and if you’re going to the Platinum, you’ll have to play it from start to finish twice – although for the second time you can focus on only collecting the items you need and skip all conversations. Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is out on PlayStation 4 with a $44.99 asking price.
