Enter Digiton: Heart of Corruption from eastasiasoft and Morne Venter is a 2D action game in which you must free a subterranean kingdom. As one of the last few Digiton survivors, using the might of your shield to destroy the many monsters and demons in your journey. It’s a Metroidvania-style game in which you’ll take on an adventure with a minimalist pixel art style with a very colorful palette that makes every area you visit pop. Do you have what it takes to explore every corner of this lost world and do whatever it takes to defeat the demon lords?
You’ll control your character by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad, interacting by pressing up to check items and move through dialogue. You’ll quickly pick up your mighty shield a few seconds into the game, and will be able to throw it with the Circle button to deal damage. You’ll jump with the X button as you overcome obstacles and deadly hazards such as the always popular lava pits in the first area. There will be abilities to unlock that will help you reach new areas, as well as keys that will open new paths. For example, the first upgrade module you collect will grant you the Shadow Step ability, so you can dash with the R1 button, so that you can move way from danger, go over gaps or reach higher locations.
There’s a full list with a Platinum trophy for this one, and as has been the case for other games from eastasiasoft, you won’t need to get to the end credits before you see that Platinum trophy pop. You will have to defeat 6, 24, and 48 enemies, open one, two, and five doors, destroy 25, 75, and 200 obstacles, and die 6, 12, and 24 times. It’s a short list of trophies that is split into one Silver trophy and eleven Gold trophies, and you could end up with a new Platinum in less than an hour if you do things right.
Enter Digiton: Heart of Corruption is a fun 2D Metroidvania-style action platformer with a good challenge that will keep you busy for a bit. As you find new masks to add to your inventory and unlock new power-up modules, you’ll be able to dive deeper and deeper in this world that has certainly seen better days. Enter Digiton: Heart of Corruption is out on PlayStation 4 with a $7.99 asking price.
