Necrobarista – Final Pour – from Coconut Island Games and Route 59 Games is a 3D point and click visual novel adventure game that you should check out on Nintendo Switch. The game takes place in a back-alley café where things are really not what they seem. By using necromancy, which the Council of Death frowns upon, the dead are given one last night to mingle with the living in a back-alley café before moving on.
The game is about death and coffee, hence the Necrobarista name! So that you can understand what you’ll be doing, you must remember Maddy’s rules. They’re easy to understand:
1.- We welcome both living and dead. Patrons will be served in the order they arrive.
2.- Don’t ask who’s alive. If someone wants you to know, they’ll tell you.
3.- The dead have 24 hours to spend within the premises before moving on. Strictly enforced.
4.- No, we don’t have wifi.
5.- Report broken items and other anomalies to staff. We can’t clean up your broken glass or spatial rift if we don’t know about it.
6.- Don’t feed the eidolons. They can’t eat and offering them food just reminds them of that cruel fact.
Since the focus is placed on the narrative, the controls will be simple and to the point. This one is a 3D point and click visual novel adventure, so you’ll walk around with the left analog stick and will use the right one to move the camera around as needed. You will move the conversation forward with the A button, which is also used to interact with objects so that you can draw their memories… and that’s it! Every now and then, a word in yellow will show up during a conversation. You can press the ZR button to inspect this keyword to learn more about it.
It’s a visual novel with an interesting cast of characters and a gameplay loop that focuses on its story, so I won’t be talking about that part of the game as to not spoil things for you. Just know that each time a new character is introduced, you’re about to have a very interesting interaction between each character and the person who is probably not aware of their current situation – that they have passed away and only have 24 hours left in this world – or the ramifications of their final interactions. As you play Necrobarista – Final Pour –, you will unlock memories and art from the game’s development. You can check these again at the Memories section from the main menu.
Necrobarista – Final Pour – is a solid visual novel that stands out on Nintendo Switch. It features a cast of interesting characters, as well as a very unique premise that helps it stand out. This is the definitive version of the game, with more side stories to experience, some gameplay refinements here and there, as well as Studio Mode, which gives you access to the character models, poses, settings, etc., so that you can create your own scenes within the Necrobarista universe. Necrobarista – Final Pour – is out on Nintendo Switch for $21.99, and it’s a must-play for visual novel fans.
