Explosive Candy World from eastasiasoft is a physics-based puzzle platformer in which you’ll have to use detonations to destroy everything in your path. The premise is simple: you must make your character reach the candy cane by using, well, explosive candy to be able to complete each level. You’ll take on 80 single-screen puzzles, spread through 4 worlds, as you absorb the minimalist pixel presentation that the game has to offer. Later on, you’ll need to grab some collectibles before you can aim for the candy cane to complete the level. And once you get to the second set of levels, you’ll have to reach chocolate bars!
The controls are very simple to understand since you’ll be using the left analog stick to move a reticle around your character so that you can select the strength of each detonation and aim in the general direction said detonation will be sending it to. Since detonations send your character in the opposite direction, you need to time them just right to be able to destroy obstacles, grab collectibles, and get to the goal so that you can do it all over again for the next level. Once you’re ready, press the R1, R1, Square, Triangle, Circle, or X buttons, and see if you’ve made the right call. You can also use the left analog stick to aim and shoot the explosive candy at an obstacle.
As you progress through the game and change from world to world, new gameplay elements and hazards will be introduced. You’ll first run into the always classic deadly and sharp spikes, bottomless pits, spinning platforms, blocks that you need to destroy, collectibles that are protected by forcefields that need to be deactivated before you can grab them, or what seem to be syrup covered pancakes that will grab your character in mid-air, allowing you to unleash another explosive candy to carry on.
Trophy-wise, as has been the case for other games from eastasiasoft, this one has a full trophy list with a lone Silver trophy and 11 Gold trophies to unlock before you can add a new Platinum trophy to your collection. It’s a very straightforward list since all you need to do is complete specific levels (1-1, 1-3, 1-5, 1-7, 1-10, 1-12, 1-14, 1-16, 1-18, 1-20, 2-2, and 2-5, to be precise), and then you’ll be good to go. Since this is a Cross-Buy release, your purchase gets you both the PS4 and Ps5 versions of the game, and each one will have a separate trophy list, so if you own a PlayStation 5, you can get yourself a pair of Platinum trophies in a couple of hours at most. And if you’re a trophy hunter, you can certainly use the trophy guide below to speed up the process.
