Mages and Treasures from Ratalika Games and lightUP is a top-down magical adventure on PlayStation. It seems that some evil monsters have stolen a powerful mage’s treasure, so he goes out on a quest to recover it before it’s too late! You’ll be visiting areas that are presented in an old-school pixel art style, as has been the case for other games from lightUP, such as Mina and Michi. To progress through each section, you’ll have to defeat enemies to open gates, collect keys to open chests and solve some puzzles by pushing barrels to open up new paths.

Mages And Treasures Review - 1

You’ll move your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you aim with the right one. Once you collect the required magical items, you’ll be able to attack with the X or R2 buttons and can change between the spells you’ve unlocked by pressing the L1 and R1 buttons as needed. If you need to dodge an incoming attack, just press the Circle or L2 buttons. To interact with objects or to push them, you can press the Square button. And if you need to check your inventory, just press the Triangle button.

Be sure to collect any health and magic upgrades you can find since your starting HP and MP bars are not that long. You will also collect a ton of coins as you explore each area since they’re dropped by the enemies you defeat, the treasure chests you open, as well as just from walking around each area and going through the spots with tall grass. Enemies and tall grass will also spawn health potions if you’re low on health. The coins you collect can also be used to purchase health and magic upgrades to make your life easier.

Trophy-wise, this is an easy Platinum trophy to unlock since you won’t have to complete the whole game. The trophy list includes 11 Gold trophies, and to get the Platinum, you’ll have to defeat 25, 50, and 100 enemies, collect 25, 50, and 100 coins, solve five puzzles, collect one of the HP upgrades and one of the MP upgrades, defeat the first boss, and reach the second boss. Since this is a Cross-Buy release, your purchase will grant you access to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game, with each one having its own trophy list.
