A Sketchbook About Her Sun from Fantastico Studio and Team SolEtude is a charming interactive narrative experience on PlayStation 5. To be more precise, it’s an interactive musical experience that presents the story of Lucia, a broken-hearted girl who is now trying to overcome her feelings for someone else in order to move on. Confused about everything that is going on, she decides to flee from her city and wanders around a smaller town where she’s never been, on a journey of self-discovery.

The game’s soundtrack is the entire album Planet X from indie Red Ribbon – a.k.a. Emma Danner – which is why each of the 11 segments is tied to one of the songs on the album. The music is not used only as the background songs for each segment but is also tied to the story that is presented and how each of the story beats is introduced to gamers.

 

Since, at its heart, this is a visual novel, the gameplay will be limited to taking on the whole experience as you make some choices along the way that will have an impact on what is presented to you at the end of each chapter by way of a poem created from the choices made along the way. Not making a choice is also an option since it can certainly be interpreted as Lucia not being able to make a choice during specific moments of her journey.

 

Trophy-wise, A Sketchbook About Her Sun has a full list with a Platinum trophy. It’s a short one that includes one Bronze trophy, one Silver trophy, and eleven Gold trophies. There’s one missable trophy on the list, so if you want to get all trophies in a single run – which will take you a little over 30 minutes – then here’s the secret: don’t make a single choice along the way.

It’s a visual novel that presents a story told not only by the game’s images but also by way of the soundtrack, which presents Red Ribbon’s 2020 Planet X album in its entirety from start to finish. A Sketchbook About Her Sun is out on PlayStation 5 with a budget price of only $4.99. There’s also a separate PlayStation 4 version you can buy for another $4.99 since this is not a Cross-Buy release.
