The ORIGIN: Blind Maid from Warani Studios and Badland is a survival horror experience on PlayStation. The game is based on the legend of The Blind Lady from Paraguayan lore. You’ll play as different characters during your journey, including a politician that is trying to feel the country, his daughter, Eliza, who goes searching for him when he goes missing, and Vera, the assistant who is helping the politician try to escape from the country before it’s too late. The game will have stealth segments as well as more action-packed FPS-like segments.

The ORIGIN: Blind Maid Review - 1

You can play this one on Easy, Normal, or Hard. Easy is perfect for gamers who want to enjoy the game’s story without having to worry too much about survival. Normal is the standard experience, with a balanced challenge that won’t feel overwhelming. Hard dials things up, throwing you into a hostile world where mistakes are going to cost you. Since you won’t have any idea of what you’ll be going up against, you might want to play the game on Easy during your first run so that you can get a better idea of how everything works and what dangers you’ll have to face.

The game can be taken on from a first-person perspective, or you can change things and have a third-person over-the-shoulder camera. You’ll move with the left analog stick, running by pressing in on the L3 button while rotating the camera with the right analog stick. The D-Pad can be used to change weapons, which you can aim with the L2 button and shoot with the R2 button. The L1 button will be for reloading. You can crouch with the R1 button. To interact, just press the X button. Pressing the X button while moving in a direction will allow you to dodge some attacks. You can check your inventory with the Square button. And if you need to review your map, you can do so with the Triangle button.

As for the crafting element, by mixing herbs and items, you’ll be able to get some boosts to aid you. These are split into internal mixes and external mixes. You won’t be able to make many mixes when you start to play The ORIGIN: Blind Maid, but as you progress through the game, you’ll gain access to new recipes. For example, there’s a mix that can increase your ability to see in the dark and perceive useful objects in your surroundings. You could also mix yourself an antidote, which can help to heal any alteration in your heart. You should also keep your eyes open so that you can collect pill bottles. They’re important since they can be used with a quick press of the Triangle button to heal some of your wounds after being damaged.

To survive, you’re going to have to upgrade your character. There are three major branches to consider: Sanity, Runner, and Sanctus. Sanity will boost physical and mental resistance, and you’ll be able to carry more internal mixes. For Runner, you can improve your running endurance and responsiveness in battle. Sanctus can improve damage dealt to enemies, and you’ll be able to carry more external mixes. If you’re lucky enough to find some tickets, you can find special contraptions to redeem them and level up your character right away.

The ORIGIN: Blind Maid PlayStation Review - 3

The game has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, with a list that includes 4 Bronze trophies, 6 Silver trophies, and 8 Gold trophies. You’ll have to complete each of the game’s chapters, beat the game, complete the game in less than 3 hours, gain maximum level for the runner, sanctum, and sanity skills, find all notes, all pieces of art, and all psychophonies, unlock all endings, get the hunting rifle, or perform all burials for those that didn’t get one when their life ended, to name some examples.

Going into the Extras menu will allow you to review the 46 files you can find, as well as the 19 pieces of artwork you can unlock. There’s also a Chapter 0 that can be played from the Extras menu. It’s called Descent into Madness, and it will let you see how Vera, one of the main characters in The ORIGIN: Blind Maid, ends up going mad. It’s a good option for checking out before playing the main game since it gives you a new perspective on things. It’s a short chapter that shouldn’t take you more than 15-20 minutes to complete at most.
