Gum+ from RedDeerGames and Elsewhere is a retro-inspired monochromatic puzzle adventure on Nintendo Switch. The Wizard Joovix did not want to have to take care of the many chores around his tower, so he created a Gum Person to take care of things. Everything was going well – minus some incidents here and there – until an experiment went terribly wrong. Joovix ended up conjuring a portal that sucked him in, leaving the Gum Person behind in the tower, all alone. The Gum Person waited and waited, but Joovix did not return. It was then that the Gum Person decided it was time to leave the tower to explore the land.

Gum+ Review

To take on each of the 76 single screens levels that Gum+ has to offer, you’ll control the Gum Person with the left analog stick as you move it around each area. You’ll have to avoid hazards – such as the very dangerous water – by grabbing and pushing blocks into the water to build new paths that can lead you to the stairs that will allow you to exit the level so that you can move to the next one. The Gum Person will automatically grab onto blocks and stick to them. For each level, you can work on getting a Gold, Silver, or Bronze rating depending on the number of moves you use to complete a level. If you make a mistake, you can always press the B button to go back one move.

And once you’ve gotten the hang of things and have played through the 76 levels that Gum+ has to offer, you can go into the Level Editor to create your own levels! You’ll move a cursor around the screen with the left analog stick as you select the different elements from the right side of the screen to fill up the playing area. Once you’re satisfied with the level you’ve built, you can test the level to make sure that it can be completed. After you’re done making any edits, you can save your creation.

Gum+ Review - 4

Gum+ is a fun retro-inspired monochromatic puzzle adventure with 76 levels to take on, as well as a Level Editor you can use to build your own levels. The difficulty ramps up at a steady pace as new elements are introduced, which end up making you think a bit outside the box to find the solution for each conundrum. Gum+ is out on Nintendo Switch with a $7.99 asking price.
