Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions from SHUEISHA GAMES and Momo-Pi is a new tactical adventure with characters from the Shonen Jump+ manga. Damien, a ten-year-old boy, moves from France to Japan and uses the power of his imagination to deal with the challenges of a new life, thus becoming the intergalactic hero known as Captain Velvet Meteor. It’s thanks to this that he’ll start to work on how to take the whole “moving from here to there” situation, and he’ll do it with the help of his favorite Jump+ manga characters, who will join him in battle in order to save the day! To commemorate the game’s release, a special one-shot manga has been released, which you can check out for free by clicking right here.

Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions Review - 1

After an action-packed intro cutscene, with hand drawings and all, Damien tells us how he’s had to leave behind his friends and everything else to move to “Japon.” Everyone is going to live at grandma’s place, which is certainly a big change for everyone, but especially for Damien. His grandma’s house is very different from their modern place in France, what with the thin walls, creaky floors, and small rooms. As for Captain Velvet Meteor’s adventure? After his spaceship is attacked, he crashes into an unknown planet. Your trusty companion, Jay-P, will assist you on this journey as you try to find a way to fix your spaceship and continue with your adventure.

When in battle, you’ll move your characters with the left analog stick or the D-Pad. Each character will be able to move a set number of tiles depending on the available movement points. If you need to reconsider your move, you can redo things with the B button. Once you’re set, press and hold down the A button to execute your action. Press the R button to switch between the characters you control. If you need to get a better look at your surroundings, just press the X button and zoom in and out as needed. You can also move the camera around with the left analog stick.

If there are any destructible obstacles on your path or enemies to attack, you can execute an attack if they’re within your character’s range. You can use the right analog stick to aim and select in which direction a character will attack. You can make good use of your companion’s help by combining your attacks to unleash a powerful combo attack. If you don’t want to use a combo attack, you can press the Y button to shift into solo attacks. To go back to combo attacks, press the Y button again.

Some enemies will be so small that just running over them with your characters will destroy them. Every time you defeat enemies, you will be rewarded with health points. The more enemies you defeat at the same time, the more health you’ll get back. This is important because characters will share a health bar, and if it goes down to zero, your group will be defeated. Some enemies will leave behind extra movement points, which you can use to move a character beyond their regular movement range.

Some of the opponents you defeat might drop some yellow Power Orbs. If you manage to collect three of said Power Orbs, you’ll be able to fully charge your power combo gauge. A power combo attack is extremely powerful and can be put to good use to defeat a group of regular enemies or to deal considerable damage to larger ones. Making the most of power combos will be a must in order to survive some of the trickier battles.

As for the manga series represented in Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions, and the characters that will join you, they include:

– Monster No. 8 – Kafka Hibino

– HEART GEAR – Chrome

– Slime Life – Slime

– Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku – Gabimaru

– Summer Time Rendering – Ushio Kofune

– ‘Tis Time for “Torture,” Princess – Princess & Ex

– GHOST REAPER GIRL – Chloé Love & Kai Iod

– SPY×FAMILY – Loid Forger

Between battles, you’ll get to do some exploration, interacting with objects with the A and X buttons as needed. While doing this, you’ll be able to find some hidden stickers to add to your collection. If you collect enough stickers and place them on your bingo card, something good might happen! You can also find hidden items in battles by destroying all enemies and objects you find in the area. For example, you’ll find a hidden music track collectible if you destroy all objects in the bottom right corner of the stage right before the boss fight.
