EleMetals: Death Metal Death Match! from RedDeerGames and Wallride is a fast-paced arcade-style game on Nintendo Switch. As the red icons bang their heads on the main screen, you’ll be able to select between a tutorial or diving right into the main mode: Shred. This one can be played locally by up to four players, as each one selects their favorite character from the 6 available metalheads. If you’re on your own, you’ll still get a chance to enjoy the mayhem that EleMetals: Death Metal Death Match! offers by adding some CPU controlled bots as needed.
Since metal is right there in the game’s name, that means that you can expect the soundtrack to be all heavy metal, and you’d be correct! You’ll get to play in one of the different stages that EleMetals: Death Metal Death Match! brings to the table – stages with names such as Ritual Cavern, Metal Haven and Shank Pit. Each stage will have a series of different levels to play through, which helps to keep each round feeling fresh as you try to outsmart your opponents. You’ll need to be quick, since at some point an extra hazard will be introduced that will probably destroy you in a blink.
Given the game’s fast-paced arcade-style, the controls are simple and to the point. You’ll control your character with the left analog stick, jumping and wall jumping with the B button. The same button is used to dash in all eight directions when you’re up in the air. You can attack with the A button, and can also charge up a more powerful attack. The X button is for headbanging is n, which needed if you want to speed up ammo generating. There are also power-ups for you to collect that can boost your attack power, allowing you to launch supershards. Being able to unleash three shards with a single attack makes a big difference, but getting one that launches eight shards all around you is even better!
The X button is also used to pull back your soul after you’re defeated, so that you can have a chance at recovering before it’s too late. When you’re killed, you’ll go out with a boom, and your soul will start to float towards the top of the screen. If you manage to get your soul back on solid ground, you’ll not only revive, you’ll also do so with a bang, instantly defeating any opponents near you! Do know that every time you’re defeated again during that round, your soul will be harder to rein back in.
While you’ll want to attack your opponents, so that you can rightfully claim your spot at the top, you’ll also need to be on high-alert at all times since they’re pretty much trying to do the same thing. The shards you launch – and charge up for a mightier and larger attack – are an ideal part of this plan. And since you need to avoid being hit by one launched by your opponents, you should know that dashing into an incoming shard will allow you to deflect it!
EleMetals: Death Metal Death Match! is a fun fast-paced arcade-style experience on Nintendo Switch that is a great fit for the console as up to four gamers huddle up at home or on the go to duke it out. EleMetals: Death Metal Death Match! is out on Nintendo Switch with a $9.99 asking price. There’s also DLC available for a reasonable $0.99 price, which gives you access to eight new tracks from FAT BARD for you to headbang to as you play.
