It’s Kooky from RedDeerGames and Roshan Nowshad is a chill, hand-drawn experience in which you search for silly things. It features a black and white presentation that helps all of the line art pop. And if you’re playing in the dark or during the night and don’t want a big flash of white hitting you from the TV screen or the Nintendo Switch’s touchscreen, you can easily pause the game and activate Dark Mode by pressing the Y button.
To learn how to play, you will need to take on the game’s tutorial. Once you get started, you’ll be presented with a pair of dinosaurs and will be asked to press on the silly one. To do this, you can move the camera around with the left analog stick and press the A button on the one you think is the silly one. Since a T-Rex doesn’t ride unicycles, that means that’s the one to choose. Then I got a group in which one was a cow riding on a hot air balloon, which meant that it was the silly one. And in the next one, I spotted a jellyfish with shoes! You probably get the idea by now.
You can select between 13 different maps as you search for silly things here and there. At first, only one map is available, so you’ll have to work on finding silly things so that you can gain access to the remaining 12 maps. If you’re curious, the number of silly things you need to find to unlock all maps is 4, 8, 15, 30, 40, 60, 85, 110, 130, 160, 190, and 220, in cumulative increments.
Once you’re ready, you can start to play on the first map, where you’ll be able to zoom in and out as needed with the L and R buttons to find the silly characters on the map. This is not as easy as when you look at characters on a white screen with nothing else to distract you, but it’s still a fun experience. The further you progress in the game, the more packed each new area will be, so you’ll have to look twice as hard to find all of the silly creatures and people you can mark.
It’s Kooky is a chill, hand-drawn experience in which you search for silly things. The game offers some replay value since you can aim at improving your overall score by speeding through each map before time runs out, which is easier to do once you’ve found a bunch of them during a first try. It’s Kooky is out on Nintendo Switch with a $9.99 asking price.
