EDENGATE: The Edge of Life from HOOK places you in the role of Mia, who finds herself in a hospital with no recollection of how she got there and what has happened to the world. In this pandemic-inspired – and pandemic-developed – dark narrative experience, you must go through a journey through feelings of uncertainty, isolation, longing, and hope. The desolate city of Edengate has certainly seen better days!

It’s a game that could be cataloged as of the walking simulator variety since you won’t be battling any enemies and will be mostly exploring each area you enter. You’ll control Mia Lorenson with the left analog stick as you look around with the right analog stick. Press in on the left analog stick to make Mia run. Press in on the right analog stick, and you can zoom the view as needed. You can interact with objects with the X button, which will allow you to collect some items and get some extra information on others. You might also be able to push or pull some of them to help you progress through an area.

The game does not have a Platinum trophy, which is certainly weird for a game released in 2022. The list includes 4 Bronze trophies and 5 Silver trophies. You will get a handful of trophies for finding some items in each of the game’s chapters. There’s another trophy for completing the game. As for the rest, they will pop for inspecting all items, graffiti, and memories, as well as for completing a couple of objectives I won’t spoil here. If you feel like you need some extra help, you can check this EDENGATE: The Edge of Life Trophy Guide.

EDENGATE: The Edge of Life offers a pandemic-inspired – and pandemic-developed – dark narrative experience that could be cataloged as of the walking sim variety. It’s a short one that can be completed in an hour and change at most, given its linear nature, without a chance to backtrack in case you missed anything. Once you complete the game, you’ll unlock a gallery section where you can review all of the items, graffiti, and memories that you interacted with, but that’s about it as far as extra content. EDENGATE: The Edge of Life is out on PlayStation 4 with a $6.99 asking price.
