Horror/crime thriller visual novel compilation Perseverance: Complete Edition is ready for you on Nintendo Switch. This collection from Feardemic and Titanite Novels brings us all three episodes in a single package. You’ll be exploring the small town of Grey Ville as you try to survive the zombie apocalypse. The story will be presented over three parts as you take on the whole thing from two different perspectives, thanks to Jack and Karen. Every choice you make matters, and it will have an impact on things.
You’ll be taking on a story that has been inspired by a variety of zombie universes, from Night of the Living Dead and 28 Days Later to Blindness and Revivals, as well as from the multimedia juggernaut that is The Walking Dead, from the comics to the TV series to its video game releases. It follows the original release of Perseverance: Part 1 on Nintendo’s console back in 2019, which has now been switched out – no pun intended – to avoid any confusion so that everyone can dive into Perseverance: Complete Edition right away.
Since this is a visual novel – and not a point and click adventure release like Telltale Games’ beloved take on The Walking Dead universe – you’ll be doing a lot of reading in your future as you explore Grey Ville. Because of this, you’ll be pressing the A button to move the story forward as you read each dialogue along the way. At specific points during each of the three parts, you’ll be asked to make a choice based on the options you’re presented with. Use the left analog stick to pick one, and confirm your selection with the A button.
Without spoiling things too much, allow me to discuss the general beat you’ll be going through for each of the three parts on offer. For part 1, you’ll be focusing on Jack Cutter, a father that is having a hard time keeping his family together. Some experiments are taking place at the military base outside of town, and when one of its subjects manages to escape, all hell breaks loose. For part 2, the focus will be on Karen, an assassin who is chasing after a mysterious girl in Grey Ville. It sounded like a simple assignment, but things quickly took a turn for the worse. The last part will allow you to see things from Jack’s or Karen’s perspective, and what you’ve learned from the first two episodes and the choices you make will have an impact on how the last part develops.
Perseverance: Complete Edition brings us a horror/crime thriller visual novel compilation that offers a zombie story that checks all the boxes you’d expect from the genre, making it a bit of a comfort food type of experience. It’s not going to win any awards for moving the genre forward, but that’s not what this collection sets out to do. Perseverance: Complete Edition is out on Nintendo Switch with a $19.99 asking price.
