Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist from Leoful and PiXEL is an old-school infused 2D 16-bit style 2D kung fu action game. Check out our Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist review!

Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist from Leoful and PiXEL is an old-school infused 2D 16-bit style 2D kung fu action game. It’s one that pays homage to the kung fu games of the 1980s and 1990s. You’ll play as the titular Xiaomei, who goes on a quest to save Xiaoyin, her elder sister. A long time ago, Master Jin Shenlong sealed the Dark Dragon high up on Mount Hei. Xiaomei had devoted herself to studying the Flame Dragon Fist’s techniques, while her sister Xiaoyin devoted her training to the Drak Dragon’s fist.

You’ll control Xiaomei with the left analog stick or the D-Pad, jumping by pressing up as needed. You can punch with the B button and kick with the A button, unleashing jump attacks as needed by pressing them when you’re up in the air. If an enemy hugs you, you will start to take damage. You can get rid of it by punching it away. The Y button is for a special attack that you can activate once you’ve managed to fill up the special bar at the bottom left corner of the screen. You’ll know it’s ready to go when you can see it flashing.

This bar fills up as you defeat enemies. There are different special attacks to use depending on your character’s positioning and the direction you press the left analog stick or the D-Pad. There’s the mighty Flame Dragon’s Fist which releases a fiery red dragon head in front of Xiaomei when you press forward and the Y button. You can also use the special attack when jumping, either by pressing the Y button or by pressing down on the left analog stick or the D-Pad and the Y button.

At the end of each stage, you’ll run into a boss. Every boss will have its own movement and attack pattern, so odds are you might end up being defeated by some of them. You’ll have to pay attention and learn from your mistakes so that you can overcome all odds and move one step closer to finding your lost sister. I suggest that you charge up your special right before making it to the end of the level so that you can at least use the special once to deal some extra damage to the boss – or to protect Xiaomei from damage if you make a mistake!

There’s also a Gallery section where you can unlock images from Studio Vigor created for the game. You can get a chance to see these images by completing the levels that Xiaomei and the Flame Dragon’s Fist has to offer. The rest of the images will unlock when you clear stages 3 and 6 in Xiamoyin Mode, get a max combo of 50+ hits, get a high score of 150,000 points, and get a high score of 300,000 points.
