Egglien from Penguin Pop Games, Ratalaika Games, and Spacespy is a 2D platformer on PS5 with aliens. After technology got too advanced, Earth was corrupted by factories and machines. The end was near, and all humans were very much aware of this. Earth’s core exploded, and all that was left were rocks. Many years after this, an alien girl named Asteri received a message from far away. She was the chosen one and would be tasked with saving Earth. You must find the planet’s core: Egglien. Joined by her friend Siren, she set out to find a sign of planet Earth. Unfortunately, other aliens learned about Asteri’s quest and decided she must be stopped at all costs to keep her from finding the core.

Egglien Review - 1

You’ll learn the basics during the first stage of the game. You’ll control Atsteri with the left analog stick or the D-Pad. She can jump with the X button. If you hold down the X button after jumping, then Asteri will reproduce. What this means is that she’ll launch small eggs from her bottom. These eggs can be used to destroy obstacles and defeat enemies. She won’t be able to do this forever. As long as the gauge over her head has some charge left, you’ll be able to carry on. The gauge will refill as soon as you land.

Egglien Review - 2

A single hit is all it takes to defeat you, so you’ll have to pay attention to the movement and attack patterns of enemies. Some might be stationary but will shoot at you. Others will follow a set path over and over again. There are enemies that bounce around as they change their path by hitting the walls and ceilings. There’s one enemy in particular that will remain asleep until you approach it, so be careful. This is even more important for boss battles. Since you will need to completely drain their HP bar, you’ll have to find the right window of opportunity to attack them so that you can survive the battle in one piece.

Egglien Review - 3

If you’re a trophy hunter, you might be wondering if Egglien has a full trophy list. The good news is that is indeed the case! On top of that, Egglien is a Cross-Buy title, so you’ll get the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game, with each one having its own trophy list. To get the 2 Silver trophies and 10 Gold trophies, all you’ll have to do is play the game and beat the second boss. Sure, there’s one trophy for defeating two enemies without touching the ground, but that one will probably pop along the way without trying too hard. If you want some extra help, you can check out this Egglien Trophy Guide.

Egglien Review - 4

Egglien offers a minimalist approach to platforming set to a story of an alien saving Earth instead of the usual story of aliens invading the planet. All you’ll have to worry about is jumping and unleashing a barrage of eggs for platforming purposes and to defeat all enemies and bosses in each of the game’s 40 stages. Egglien is out as a Cross-Buy title with a low price of only $5.99. Your purchase will allow you to download both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions, with each one offering a separate trophy guide.

This Egglien review is based on a PlayStation 5 copy provided by Penguin Pop Games.
