Dawn of the Monsters is a very fun beat ‘em up action experience that I got a chance to review last year on Nintendo Switch. It’s now 2023, and WayFoward and 13AM Games are back with the Dawn of the Monsters Arcade + Character DLC Pack! Along with this paid Dawn of the Monsters Arcade + Character DLC Pack – which is available for only $6.99, the game also got a free update that adds a New Story+ mode, New Game+, New Game++, and New Game+++, as well as the option of activating Japanese voices for the characters.

The New Story+ mode gives you the option of taking on the Dawn of the Monsters story all over again while keeping all Augments intact – for more on Augments and other gameplay mechanics, be sure to check out our Dawn of the Monsters review. If you take on the New Game+, New Game++, and New Game+++ options, then you can expect to retain your Augments while you go up against new enemy variants and a considerable bump in the overall challenge. The new Japanese dub also helps to give this one the final push needed for the Kaiju movie vibes to shine through.

 

And now, back to the content included in the Dawn of the Monsters Arcade + Character DLC Pack! We’re getting a new character in Meteor Temujin, who won the fan vote for what the new character should be. Think of Meteor Temujin as a cross between Mazinger Z and Voltron, and you’ll be able to better understand what you’re getting yourself into. Four students join forces and combine their vehicles to form Meteor Temujin, who can switch between attacking with a sword, an axe, or a hammer! And then, there’s Arcade Mode! For this one, you’ll be taking on 11 remixed stages of Kaiju action as you try to boost your score as high as possible to earn yourself some extra lives. When you beat a stage, you’ll get to choose one of three different upgrades to equip for your character. You only have a single run to complete all of Arcade Mode, so if you run out of lives, then you’ll need to give it another go after being sent back to the start. Manage to beat Arcade Mode, and you’ll be able to upload your high score to the online leaderboard! Choose between playing in Classic Mode, where upgrades are predetermined, or taking on Rogue Mode, which mixes things up even more by having randomized upgrades for each of your runs.

 

The last piece of content for The Dawn of the Monsters Arcade + Character DLC Pack is the 50 new character skins that will allow you to customize the look of all five characters. Be sure to check them all out so that you can find your favorites in the pack! We’re also getting some extra entries for the Gallery section, as well as new Challenges to try and beat. As you can see, that $6.99 price tag certainly matches the amount of content we’re getting!

I had a blast playing the main game for our Dawn of the Monsters review, so I was eager to check out what this new DLC would offer. Arcade Mode changes how you approach things since you need to try to not only defeat the evil Nephilim but also keep a close eye on your health so that you can make it to the end of the 11 stages on offer. Add extra character Meteor Temujin, the 50 bonus skins, as well as the free update that adds New Story+, New Game+, New Game++, New Game+++, and Japanese voice acting, and you have a game that is a must-play on Nintendo’s console. The Dawn of the Monsters Arcade + Character DLC Pack is available on Nintendo Switch with a $6.99 price tag. You can also get the Dawn of the Monsters: Full Game plus Arcade + Character DLC Pack Bundle from the Nintendo eShop for $34.99, which will save you a couple of bucks.
