Are you ready for some totally tubular DLC? Then check out our Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge – Dimension Shellshock review!

I had a most excellent time with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge on Nintendo Switch when I reviewed it last year, so I had definitely been looking forward to checking out the Dimension Shellshock DLC for this fantastic game from Dotemu and Tribute Games. With this new DLC, we’re getting two new characters to play as – Miyamoto Usagi from the beloved Usagi Yojimbo series and Karai, an outlaw from the Foot Clan and a fierce foe to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who made her first appearance in the TMNT comic book way back in 1992. On top of that, we’re also getting some extra content, thanks to the added Survival Mode.

Survival Mode tasks the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their companions with going on a multidimensional journey through time and space as they collect and use powerful shards to complete Dimensional Crystals to jump from dimension to dimension. Why? Because Shredder is trying to conquer the multiverse! They’re informed of this predicament by the Neutrinos, extra-dimensional humanoids that hail from Dimension X. These characters will be familiar to those of you who watched the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon. Everyone was having a good time enjoying a pizza party after their latest adventure when they were informed of the new predicament at hand.

You’ll control your character by using either the left analog stick or the D-Pad. The Y button will be for attacks, and you can perform combos by pressing the Y button in quick succession. The B button is for jumping and double jumping, and you can press the Y button while in the air for an attack. If you press both buttons while your character is on the ground, you’ll unleash a rising attack. Your attacks can also be charged up by pressing and holding down the Y button. You can also grab and how enemies. Pressing the A button will allow you to dodge incoming attacks. The X button will be for your special attack, for which you need to fill up the bar above your health at least one level.

How do Miyamoto Usagi and Karai differ from the game’s starting lineup of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, April O’Neil, and Casey Jones? Well, stats-wise, Usagi has good range and power while excelling at speed. Karai is a bit more aggressive of a character, which is reflected in her stats. She has average range and speed but has a top power rating, which means that all of her attacks will pack a punch!

In Survival Mode, which plays as a roguelike experience, you’ll be able to obtain new color palettes and power up your character by collecting shards for Dimensional Crystals. The further you progress in your dimension-hoping journey, the more powerful your character will get! You’ll also aim to get your name on the online leaderboard for Survival Mode so that you can prove that you’re as good as you think you are!

Whenever you beat a stage in Survival Mode, you’ll be presented with two options for continuing your run, which is similar to how roguelike games handle things on their end. Choose wisely since selecting the right route will allow you to progress deeper and deeper into the multiverse. You could grab a perk that doubles the damage you deal while making you receive more damage, which is an interesting trade-off in the short term. But if you manage to survive for the three rounds that the perk lasts for, then all your health will be healed!

I had a great time playing through the main adventure in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge back when I reviewed the game, so I was more than ready to check out the Dimension Shellshock DLC. Having two more characters, as well as the new Survival Mode – which adds a roguelite twist to the equation – adds a lot of value to the game, and it’s an easy one to recommend. You’ll be traveling through the Edo dimension, the 8-Bit Battleground dimension, and even the Mirage Studios dimension, with each one offering a different look for the locations in which the action takes place. Can you managa to defeat the master of the void? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge – Dimension Shellshock DLC is available on Nintendo Switch with a $7.99 price tag.
