Mirrored Souls from Short N Sweet Games and The Bricks Studio is a colorful and chill single-player co-op puzzle platforming experience on PlayStation 5. You’ll be taking control of Ravi and Daru, a pair of celestial beings who have been separated in a mirrored world. To be able to fix things, they must work together as they remain apart to reach the magical portals in each of the 2D levels as they solve puzzles to be able to progress.
The game’s world is fully hand-drawn, which helps each location stand out and pop on your TV screen – or on your PS Remote Play device of choice. The team at The Bricks Studio has worked on the game’s look by taking inspiration from sources such as the animated films from Studio Ghibli, as well as games such as Gris and Journey. And yes, you should definitely go check out and play Gris on PlayStation 5!
You’ll control both characters at the same time, so you’ll be using the left analog stick or the D-Pad to make both of them walk through each level. The X button will be used for jumping, an ability that is a must for a game that bills itself as a 2D puzzle platformer. You’ll run into large stuff that needs to be moved around so that you can get to the exit, either by getting said thing out of the way, by using it as a platform to reach new heights, or by placing it over a pressure plate that can keep a barrier open long enough for one of your characters to walk through.
On the trophy side of things, I’m here to report that the game does not feature a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, which is odd for an indie game launching in 2023. The list is a short one that includes X Bronze trophies, Y Silver trophies, and Z Gold trophies for you to work on. There are trophies that will unlock for completing each of the game’s chapters, but most of the trophies will be tied to doing things in specific levels along the way in a specific way to make the remaining trophies pop.
Mirrored Souls is a colorful and chill single-player co-op puzzle platforming game on PlayStation 5. As you work on controlling both Ravi and Daru at the same time to complete the different puzzles you’ll run into as you play through the dozens of levels on offer, you’ll take on a fun experience with a good difficulty curve that won’t feel overwhelming. For trophy hunters, it’s unfortunate this one doesn’t have a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, so do keep this in mind. Mirrored Souls is available on PlayStation 5 with a $14.99 price tag. There’s also a PlayStation 4 version available for download as a separate purchase for the same price.
