Aptly titled sequel Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – Slaps and Beans 2 is ready for action on Nintendo Switch. Check out our Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – Slaps and Beans 2 review!

Aptly titled sequel Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – Slaps and Beans 2 is ready for action on Nintendo Switch. ININ Games is back with a second serving of beat ‘em up action slapstick fun alongside the titular pair. Bud Spencer (born Carlo Pederlosi) and Terrence Hill (born Mario Girotti) worked together on 18 films in the action comedy and Spaghetti Western genres. They changed their names because Director Giuseppe Colizzi deemed their names to be too Italian for an international audience, and thus the action duo of Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill was born.

After finding themselves drifting in the ocean with nothing but a bunch of cans of beans – and having said cans mysteriously emptied by someone who is not Bud – Terrence tries to escape his companion’s wrath by climbing onto the mast of the makeshift raft. It’s then that he sees something in the distance that could save the pair: land! He quickly starts to paddle with his hands to try and make to the beach before the current takes them elsewhere. Once they manage to get there, a new adventure awaits the pair.

As is usually the case for beat ‘em ups, the controls are simple and to the point. You’ll control your character of choice with the left analog stick or the D-Pad. If you doble tap left or right, you’ll start to run in that particular direction. The B button will be used for fast attacks. Heavy attacks are mapped to the Y button. Both attacks can be charged by pressing and holding down the corresponding button. Pressing the X button will allow you to grab an enemy. And if you time things right, you can use the A button to block as needed. If you have to enemies in front of you, press the B and Y buttons at the same time for a double fist attack! This will use up some of your special attack bar, which you can see right below your character’s health bar.

The game can be enjoyed either in single-player, or in local co-op, with one player controlling Bud and the other one taking over Terrance. When you play by yourself, both characters will be on the screen, and you’ll directly control one of them at all times. If you want to switch things up and control the other character, then you can do so by pressing the L button. And yes, you can always go back to playing as your original character by pressing the L button again.

Some levels will require you to use the abilities of both Bud and Terrance in different ways. As you can probably guess by now, Bud is a hulking tank that can destroy wooden boxes with his bare fists, while Terrance is more of a nimble individual who swings around poles or can jump over a stack of concrete blocks in order to reach a higher area. You’ll run into this type of puzzle early in the game, so you’ll have to help each other out to be able to progress further into the level.

There will be some different game modes introduced here and there to change the pace of things. Without spoiling things too much, allow me to discuss the first mini-game in Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – Slaps and Beans 2: the banana boat! You’ll have to get thee banana shipment to safety by reaching the destination in one piece. You’ll have to move left and right to balance the load and lose as few bananas as possible. You’ll have to shoo away giant birds, repair leaks on the boat, or avoid deadly crocodiles!

As someone who did get a chance to enjoy thee movies of Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill growing up, playing Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – Slaps and Beans 2 certainly hit the spot. It’s a love letter to the silliness and campiness of the pair’s movies and then some. If you like beat ‘em ups, you’ll certainly have a fun time with this one, between the beat ‘em up segments and the mini-games you’ll take on your own or along a friend or two. Bud Spencer & Terence Hill – Slaps and Beans 2 is out on Nintendo Switch with a $19.99 asking price.
