Mechs V Kaijus from JanduSoft and Double Punch Games is a tower defense action game on Nintendo Switch. Check out our Mechs V Kaijus review!

Mechs V Kaijus from JanduSoft and Doble Punch Games is a tower defense action game on Nintendo Switch. You’ll be taking on the role of a commander who must do whatever it takes to put a stop to the deadly Kaijus that are invading. By positioning towers and traps while you command your troops, you’ll be able to take on an experience that mixes a handful of genres for a fast-paced, hardcore experience on Nintendo’s console. You’ll be using your expertise in tower defense, MOBA, and shooters to be able to stand a chance.

Mechs V Kaijus Review - 4

Think Plants vs. Zombies with mechs and Kaijus, and you’ll be halfway there. Your towers will be on the left side of the screen, and you’ll use the mighty Odin mech to stand your ground and defend against the Kaijus of different shapes and sizes. Staying on top of things will be a must since your opponents won’t stop until they’ve decimated your base or you use your abilities to make a dent in their numbers so that you can try to get closer and closer to victory.

The game can be played in one of three difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Easy is still going to feel a bit challenging at times since it’s not a walk in the park, but it’s a good option for those who want to not feel overwhelmed. Normal offers the standard difficulty setting, making sure that you stay on high alert at all times before the Kaijus end up destroying your wall. Hard is reserved for those of you who want to take on a hearty challenge since enemies will punish you for every mistake you make.

Mechs V Kaijus Review - 3

Before you start to play the game’s Campaign Mode, I suggest that you give Training Mode a visit so that you can learn the ins and outs of the game and aren’t caught completely off-guard. While the starting position of the Odin mech and your other mechs will be helpful, moving closer to the action will be crucial for boosting your odds of winning the conflict. You can use Odin’s jetpack to engage the enemy.

Once you’re out on the battlefield, you’ll move the camera with the left analog stick to get a better view of things as you use the right one to move a cursor around the screen to aim. There’s a lot for you to keep tabs on as you dive into Mechs V Kaijus. You’ll unleash artillery with the X button to deal damage over an area. You can use a freeze ray with the A button. Tanks can be deployed with the B button. Drones – which act as anti-bullet devices – are deployed with the Y button. The mighty Odin mech will need to have its ammo reloaded with the L button, and you can cycle between bullet types by using the R button.

Mechs V Kaijus Review - 2

Pressing the ZL button will open and close the Defense Menu, from which you can deploy towers as needed. Towers come in different varieties, but you’ll need to buy them from the skill tree before you can deploy them – more on that in a bit. You do start with some walls you can install at the designated slots to slow down enemies. You can also eventually upgrade your towers to make them more efficient. You can do this once you have enough resources by pressing the L button to pay the upgrade price.

As you take on each mission, you’ll be rewarded with gold and tech points. You can spend gold to upgrade the Odin mech. Spend your hard-earned gold to boost its fire rate to increase its bullets per minute rate; boost damage dealt per bullet; boost the shield to increase the Odin’s HP; boost missiles to increase the Odin’s missile capacity; or boost its armor so that you can lower the damage the unit receives from every hit. Gold can also be spent to upgrade the range, ammo, fire rate, damage, and armor of the other mechs in your group.

Mechs V Kaijus Review - Tech Skill

As for tech points, they will be spent in the skill tree, which offers a good variety of things for you to unlock. You could spend your tech points on Odin explosive ammo that will go boom when it comes into contact with an enemy, thus damaging several Kaijus at the same time. Another option is the Teslacoil, a defensive structure from the Soviet era that will unleash artificial lighting bolts. Maybe you should also unlock the base wall shield to increase the shield regeneration rate. Or perhaps you could boost gold extraction so that you can get more gold from Kaiju bones to boost the Odin mech.

Mechs V Kaijus is a fast-paced tower defense action game on Nintendo’s console. Think of it a bit as Plants vs. Zombies, but with, well, mechs and Kaijus, and you’ll get a good idea of what to expect. The game can prove to be a bit challenging even in the lower difficulty setting, and you’ll run into missions that you won’t be able to complete until you do a bit of grinding for extra gold and tech points so that you can boost your forces in order to be able to stand a chance. Mechs V Kaijus is out on Nintendo Switch with a $12.99 price tag.
