Kickback Slug: Cosmic Courier from Kittens in Space and aPriori Digital is a physics-based game in which you must carefully navigate each area. You’ll be playing as Slippy, a slug in space who will need to fly around each area by shooting in one direction while moving in the other one, thanks to the kickback from its gun. You’ll be joined by McFly as the two of you work hard to complete all of their deliveries as fast as possible.

Unfortunately, things don’t go as smoothly as planned. Their usual daily shift suffers a major blow when an unexpected mechanical failure sends their spaceship crashing down on a planet that is seemingly floating through space. All of the parcels they were transporting have been scattered through the planet’s surface, which means that Slippy and McFly must give it their all as they take on fifty levels split through five different zones so that they can deliver their packages to aliens in all the galaxy.

After crashing, the AI liaison from Lunar Orbital Logistics – that would be LOL – will activate. It will mention it has noticed that the parcels you were carrying have been misplaced. McFly says you shouldn’t listen to the AI and should just focus on recovering all packages as fast as possible. It’s right after this that the game will send you into the mandatory tutorial so that you can learn all of the basics and work on recovering those packages. For this, you’ll be using the B.A.N.G equipment at your disposal.

You can press the A button to use the Blaster. Doing this will propel Slippy in the opposite direction in which he fires. This is why you’ll be using the left analog stick to aim as needed. You can also jet around at a constant pace by pressing and holding down the B button, which will make Slippy… propel himself with the power of gas. Pressing the Y button will make him blast onward in a blink.

You’ll also be using the Blaster to shoot at switches in order to activate them. These can be activated to open doors or to open the portal that will allow you to progress to the next level. You can also shoot at the hourglass to try and speedrun a level and complete it before your time is up. As you move from point A to point B, you’ll need to keep an eye out for any hazards that can hurt Slippy. Sharp spikes? Always bad for your health.

You will also need to shoot at any creature that tries to get too close. And at the end of each area, you’ll have to fight against a boss. For example, once you reach the last level in the jungle section, you’ll have to battle against a mecha Venus flytrap. It will shoot energy spheres at you, and you’ll have to avoid those as you shoot at its open mouth to deal some damage. You won’t be able to remain in the same spot for long since it will soon charge up a deadly laser beam that can completely destroy Slippy.

Kickback Slug: Cosmic Courier is a physics-based game in which you must carefully navigate each area. As you use the B.A.N.G., Slippy’s gas jet ability, and his insta-zip to explore each level, you’ll have to also work on collecting all the parcels that fell out of your spaceship after crashing on this unknown planet. While you can complete a level without collecting the missing parcel it contains, that means you won’t be able to 100% the game. There are also some bonus levels for you to take on that will unlock after you complete all of the main ones. Kickback Slug: Cosmic Courier is out on Nintendo Switch with an $11.99 price tag.
