The Silent Swan from Sony Interactive Entertainment and Praenaris is a first-person walking sim adventure on PlayStation 5. Your journey as Mirov Kavrazyma will have you exploring the huge city of Urzhum as you search for your wife, the only witness to what happened to your home and how you were separated in the first place. You’ll explore a silent world where you must find the clues left behind that will show you what happened… before it’s too late.

The Silent Swan Review - 1

With this one being played from a first-person perspective, you’ll control your character with the left analog stick as you look around with the right one. If you press and hold down the R1 button, you’ll be able to run at a faster pace. You can jump with the X button, and can interact by pressing the Square button. You’ll find a flashlight around 10 minutes into the game, which you can use to light your way. The flashlight can be turned on and off by pressing the Triangle button as needed.

Trophy-wise, the game has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to work on. The list includes 10 Bronze trophies, 3 Silver trophies, and 9 Gold trophies. There are some trophies tied to progressing through the game and reaching the end of your adventure. There are also trophies tied to collecting a radio in a military tent, finding the flashlight, jumping and surviving from a height of more than 100 meters, riding the quicycle for 5 kilometers, reaching the highest point in the forest and in Urzhum, and ringing every single small bell in the game, to name some examples.

The Silent Swan Review - 3

As for the game’s performance, for some reason, The Silent Swan pauses for a handful of seconds when you ring a small bell to save your progress, which had me thinking the game had glitched since I had collected an item a second earlier and had a trophy pop at the same time. There’s also a lot of pop-in going on, particularly in the second large area you visit in the game, with textures also loading a bit late, which is odd for a PlayStation 5 game.

The Silent Swan Review - 4

The Silent Swan is a first-person walking sim adventure in which you’ll take on the role of Mirov Kavrazyma, who is searching for his wife. She’s the only witness who knows what happened to their home and why they were separated. Your enjoyment of the game will depend on how you feel about walking simulators, which is why this one is not going to be for everyone. The Silent Swan is out on PlayStation 5 with a $19.99 price tag. There’s also The Silent Swan Beyond the Walls Edition for $23.99, which includes the main game, 8 exclusive avatars, and the game’s official soundtrack.
