Rough Justice ’84 from Daedalic Entertainment and Gamma Minus is a fun 1980s-inspired neon-infused sim experience on Nintendo Switch. For this one, you’ll be playing as a former police officer who had been framed for a crime he did not commit. After being released, when all charges are cleared, a former associate in the force approaches you with an interesting project for you to work on.

Rough Justice ’84 Review - 1

It seems that during the time you were in jail, things in the city took a turn for the worse. The police force has ended up being overwhelmed by the considerable increase in crimes all over the place, which is why the Seneca Enforcement Act was passed. Thanks to this, any private agency can now take on the many unsolved cases as they try to boost their profits while hiring a variety of agents to take care of things.

The agents that you’ll be able to hire will be working as freelancers, which means that they won’t always be available to work for your agency since they will also be taking on cases from other agencies. This is how you’ll be dealing with fugitive recovery, repossession, and security gigs of varying difficulties while trying to sort things out by rolling the dice and hoping that luck is on your side so that you can succeed.

Rough Justice ’84 Review - 2

And yes, the different agents that you’ll be able to hire will definitely make you think that you’ve seen them before. Why is that? Because they have been clearly inspired by movie stars of the era, such as Robin Williams, Benicio del Toro, Demi Moore, Michael Caine, and Jennifer Connely, to name some examples. Each one of them will have different stats for you to consider since they will make them more suited for particular types of cases.

Along with rolling dice to meet specific requirements, every now and then, you’ll also need to take on some logic-based puzzles. These include things such as hotwiring a car so that you can repossess the vehicle, finding out what parts of a document must be redacted, or picking a lock, to name some examples. For the dice rolling part of the equation, you can use some of the agency’s money to send an agent to purchase an item or two to boost this or that stat-based dice roll.

Something to always keep in mind is that you have deadlines for completing each caseload that you take on, so you need to be on high alert as you move around the city trying to solve each particular case. Another thing you need to be aware of is that each of your agents will have a set amount of energy to spend. You might want to give an agent a rest ahead of their current workday being over so that they can get some rest and not end up feeling overwhelmed.

Rough Justice ’84 is a fun 1980s-inspired neon-infused sim experience on Nintendo Switch. As you take on a crime-ridden city in which private agencies are now picking up the slack after the police are not cutting it, you’ll have to hire agent after agent – as freelancers – to take on caseloads that include fugitive recovery, repossession, security gigs, and more. Do you have what it takes to make this neon-infused city a bit of a better place? Rough Justice ’84 is out on Nintendo Switch with a $19.99 price tag.
