[PlayStation 5] 10 Seconds to Win! Review
Ceidz

10 Seconds to Win! from eastasiasoft and Vergiu Games is a fast-paced platformer in which you’ll have to reach the end of 50 levels each within a time limit of only 10 seconds. Check our 10 Seconds to Win! review!

Take the role of an agile little blonde hero as he leaps and dashes his way to glory in 10 Seconds to Win! This is a precision platformer where you only have 10 seconds to complete each single-screen challenge. Run, jump and air dash to avoid spikes, spinning saw blades and more as you try to reach a trophy cup on the far side of the stage.

10 Seconds to Win! from eastasiasoft and Vergiu Games is a fast-paced platformer where players must navigate through a series of levels, each with the constraint of a 10-second time limit. The premise is simple: leap from platform to platform, dodge hazards like holes, saws, and spikes, and reach the end before the clock runs out. Yet, within this simplicity lies the game’s first stumbling block: an inconsistent difficulty of level design.

One of the issues for 10 Seconds to Win! is its erratic difficulty curve. While you’ll be able to breeze through most levels, a few present a frustratingly steep challenge, which will lead you to numerous failed attempts and a sense of frustration. Moreover, the majority of levels feel generic, offering little in terms of innovation or creativity. It’s only in the final stretch in level 50 that the game introduces a fresh gameplay mechanic that makes the whole experience feel a lot better… but since this is the last level in the game, it feels a bit too little and too late. Furthermore, in this game, the hazards feel generic. The presence of pitfalls, spinning saw blades, and spikes will feel redundant in the long run.

On the gameplay side, the controls were responsive, which left me with an impression of fluid gameplay. This responsiveness comes with a slight issue, however, as you’ll sometimes throw yourself in a pit due to your jump being farther than initially intended, which was slightly frustrating during some levels.

On the technical front, I noticed that the default PlayStation back button mapping conflicts with standard conventions, as the Circle button is not used. Additionally, the pause function is a huge miss because once paused, you’ll mechanically press the Start button again to resume gameplay, only to be presented with the very first level of the game. You’ll have to press the Start button again, navigate to the main menu, and then manually navigate back to the desired stage.

One of the key selling points for 10 Seconds to Win! is its emphasis on the 10-second time limit mechanic. However, this feature doesn’t live up to its potential. Surprisingly, the time limit rarely poses a challenge, with most deaths attributed to platforming missteps rather than running out of time while playing one of the game’s 50 levels.

On the trophies side, you can expect to earn two easy Platinum trophies since this game is Cross-Buy between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions. The trophy names are uninspiring, as they are simply shown as “Platformer I” up to “Platformer XII,” each unlocked as you progress through the main game. You can expect to have this whole game finished within about 15 minutes. The separate trophy lists include a single Silver trophy and 11 Gold trophies, so there’s that. For some extra tips, check this 10 Seconds to Win! Trophy Guide.

10 Seconds to Win! falls short of its promise as a stressing platformer experience. The controls were responsive, and the level design was generally good, although the difficulty curve progression was inconsistent. If you’re a trophy hunter, you might find something to like here thanks to its two Platinum trophies, but other than that, this game is too generic for its own good. 10 Seconds to Win! is available as a Cross-Buy title with a budget price of only $4.99.
