Retro-style Quake-inspired FPS WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is ready for you on Nintendo Switch. Learn more about it in our WRATH: Aeon of Ruin review!

Retro-style Quake-inspired FPS WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is ready for you on Nintendo Switch. This one comes from 3D Realms, Fulqrum Publishing, Splipgate Ironworks, and KillPixel Games. It’s a hardcore first-person experience that pays homage to the 3D classics of the 1990s with visuals that evoke the era and a soundtrack that helps to set the mood. The soundtrack is from Andrew Hulshult, who also worked on Quake Champions, Dusk, Amid Evil, as well as DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part One.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin Review - 1

You’ll be taking on the role of an Outlander. Your task is to hunt down the Guardians of the Old World by order of the Shepherd of Wayward Souls. Explore 15 maps over 3 unique hubs as you use the only possible solution to this predicament: violence. Lots and lots of violence. There are 15 different enemies to battle with your mighty weapons, as well as 3 Guardians of the Old World that act as the bosses in WRATH: Aeon of Ruin. It offers a challenging experience that will pay homage to the niche FPS from back in the day, which does mean it won’t be for everyone.

Since the game is played from a first-person perspective, you’ll be running through each stage as you control your character with the left analog stick and look around and aim with the right analog stick. You can attack enemies with the ZR button and switch weapons with the R button or move between them by pressing left or right on the D-Pad. Alft fire is mapped to the ZL button. The A button will be for jumping, and you can crouch by pressing the B button.

The X button will be for interacting with, say, switches to open a door or two or to lower platforms that would otherwise be out of your reach. Once you collect some Artifacts, you’ll be able to press the L button to open up the radial menu to choose one. Your currently equipped Artifact can then be used by pressing the Y button. You can also press in on the right analog stick to activate gyroscope aiming to make the most of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is a retro-style Quake-inspired FPS on Nintendo’s console. As the Outlander, your task is to hunt down the Guardians of the Old World by order of the Shepherd of Wayward Souls. By making the most of your weapons, you’ll slash, stab, and shoot your way through hordes of enemies by using your most valuable skill: violence.
