Last Night of Winter from Red Art Games and DigitalZeon is a top-down action Soulslike with an undead protagonist at the helm. The game takes place in an old stronghold during the final days of a great battle. You’ve, unfortunately, died but have been given another chance thanks to your will to complete your mission. You must give it your all as you continue the siege during a never-ending night. Will you be able to succeed and break the eternal cycle?

Death is not a simple process, so you have been stripped of your memories and most of your abilities. You do remember your purpose, and it’s this that will drive you onward as you explore the stronghold and its surrounding areas in a non-linear fashion as you try to find the Heir so that you can end the curse once and for all. Sure, some specific spots will be locked from you until you manage to obtain the right ability or item that will open up the way.

 

Once you get started, you’ll control your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you explore each area. You can interact with items or other characters by pressing the X button. The Circle button can be pressed for a quick dash. You’ll be given a bell that will shine bright with a blue beam of energy, which you can swing around with the R1 button to attack as needed. You can aim your attacks by using the right analog stick. You’ll eventually unlock a ranged attack that will be mapped to the L1 button. Oh, and you can use a special attack with the R2 button!

Regular attacks will consume stamina. Special attacks will consume concentration. Stamina will automatically recover at a steady pace over time. To recover concentration, you’ll have to perform regular attacks and hit enemies. If you find yourself in a spot where no enemies are around, you can also charge up your concentration to quickly recover it. This is done by pressing and holding down the R1 button. You’ll know it’s working because your character will start to glow with a blue hue similar to that of your bell.

By interacting with the fountain, you’ll be able to heal your wounds, save your progress, and fill up your flask. This is important since it will allow you to drink from it by pressing the Square button in order to heal your wounds. Items that you collect will be added to your inventory. From there, you can bind equipment to boost your stats or use items. You could consume a Red Seed to heal your wounds or use some Fading Powder to return to the last place you rested at.

Trophy-wise, this one has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to add to your collection. And since this one is a Cross-Buy title, if you own a PlayStation 5 console l, you’ll be able to download both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game at no extra cost. Each of these versions will have its own list, which is split into 3 Bronze trophies, 2 Silver trophies, and 10 Gold trophies. For this Platinum, some of the objectives to complete include drinking some water from your flask, escaping the prison, pet the dog, pet the cat, buying an upgrade from the blacksmith, bringing the blacksmith four ores, and completing the game by playing in the Hard difficulty setting from start to finish.
