Police Simulator: Patrol Officers Nintendo Switch Edition brings the sim experience to Nintendo’s console. After launching on PlayStation 5 back in 2022, the game has now been ported to and optimized for Nintendo’s hybrid console by astragon and Aesir Interactive. You’re a new member of the Brighton Police Department, so you’ll have to give it your all to earn your rightful place in the force. Do you have what it takes?

As you begin your journey, you’ll be able to choose between a male or female character, with the game giving it a name and address for you. Once that’s decided, you’ll be sent on a mission right away so that you can get the hang of things as you learn the basics. You’re a rookie, after all, so you will need to go through the motions and show that you’re capable enough to get the job done, no matter how menial. Do things right, and you’ll earn Shift Points, which will allow you to level up – more on this in a bit.

You’ll control your character with the left analog stick, as you use the right analog stick to control the camera as needed. You can interact with people or vehicles with the A button. This will allow you to review the situation at hand as you try to understand what the best course of action would be. You shouldn’t have a vehicle towed away without a proper reason, just like you can’t issue a ticket to someone or detain them without having enough evidence to prove your case.

 

You can enter Focus Mode by pressing the L button. This will allow you to obtain more information about the situation at hand. Focus on license plates to create an entry in the Background Check app on your computer. Focus on someone, and you’ll be able to check if they’re the wanted suspect you’re looking for. Focus on drug dealers to get more information about what you’re looking at. Is it really a drug deal going down or something else?

Paying attention to your character’s intuition will be important during your interactions. This is thanks to the game’s Intuition System. The text overlay for this will be presented in one of four colors: blue, red, green, and yellow. Blue will be for additional intel when interacting with people. Red will show you information about your police officer’s behavior so that you can make adjustments if needed. As for green, it will be used when you activate Casual Mode. Yellow will be used for all other types of intuition feedback.

Remember Shift Points? As mentioned before, You’ll start your job at the Brighton Police Department as a rookie and will need to make a name for yourself. You’ll only have access to one neighborhood for your shift and will need to perform well on the tasks you take on so that you can earn as many Shift Points as possible. Doing this will allow you to prove your worth as you level up, which will make it possible to choose shifts in additional neighborhoods.

Once you’re ready to start a shift, be sure to pay attention to how you’ll be patrolling, that is, if you’ll work while walking or while in a car. Notice the day and the time of day. You can expect to see more potential violations at night as well as on weekends. By default, each shift will last 20 minutes. This can be adjusted if needed. Some neighborhoods will also be known for having a low crime rate or a high one, which will have an effect on what you can expect when taking a shift there.

On top of Shift Points, you’ll also be working on collecting District Points. These are earned at the end of a shift and will be awarded based on how many Shift Points you managed to earn during said shift and how many Conduct Points you have left. You’ll also receive bonus District Points if you manage to clear a neighborhood of high crime. Earn enough District Points, and you’ll be rewarded with a Duty Star. Duty Stars are needed to unlock new tools, police cars, city districts, and more.

You’re a police officer, and that means you’re bound to a code of conduct. You’ll start each shift with 100 Conduct Points. If an officer breaks the law, then Conduct Points will be deducted. If Conduct Points reach zero, then the officer is fired, and it’s game over! This will reset the shift and will send you back to the start of it, and you will need to do everything all over again. Be sure to drive properly, don’t jaywalk, don’t aim your weapon unless absolutely needed… and certainly don’t shoot it for no reason!
