Shoot ’em up MACROSS -Shooting Insight- from Red Art Games and Kaminari Games is ready to go on PlayStation 5. It’s a great way for fans to enjoy an adventure that brings together characters from five different series in the franchise: MACROSS Plus, MACROSS Zero, MACROSS 7, MACROSS Frontier and MACROSS Delta. It’s because of this that you’ll also get a chance to enjoy songs from all of these series, all while making the most of the power of songs to try to gain an edge in combat, thanks to the might of songstresses.

While there’s certainly a ton of MACROSS content from which to draw inspiration, MACROSS -Shooting Insight- features an original story created just for the game. You’ll be going on a special mission that involves a multidimensional cast that comes together to find what is going on after several dimensional folds suddenly occur across space-time. This draws pilots and songstresses together to Battle 7, from which five different paths open up. Will you be able to save the galaxy? The main attraction will be Story Mode, but later on, you’ll also be able to play the more action-oriented Arcade Mode, along with Ace Battle, Boss Rush, and Area Survey. Ace Battle will pit you against ace pilots from across the series in battle simulations. Boss Rush will have you taking on the area bosses one after the other. Area
You will have the option of choosing between five different pilots and their mecha: Shin Kudo, Isamu Dyson, Gamlin Kizaki, Alto Saotome, and Hayate Immelman. Each of their Valkyries will have different stat values for you to consider for HP, attack, speed, lock range, lock on, missiles, and evasion. As you collect crystals from the enemies you defeat, you’ll be able to collect them to boost the power of your shots. This will be crucial for defeating bosses since you’ll be able to use what would effectively be a bomb in other shoot ’em ups so that you can clear the screen from enemy shots so that you can focus all your power on the main target. A level 5 shoot power Valkyrie can make short work of even the biggest of bosses if you time things just right!

Given this release’s arcade-style gameplay, the controls are going to be simple and to the point. You’ll control your mecha by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad, shooting by using the R1 button, and evading incoming attacks by pressing the Circle button. When not shooting, you can use the right analog stick to show the lock-on radar cone, which is used to lock onto enemies within range. Every time the marker flashes, a missile will lock on. Valkyries will have a different number of missiles to use for this. By defeating enemies with locked-on missiles, you’ll be able to boost your score rate to increase how many points you receive for the enemies you defeat. Each Valkyrie will have a different shoot pattern, so be sure to try them all to find the one that best suits your playing style! When the special gauge is full, you’ll be able to call in a support strike by pressing the Square button.
The game features a Gallery tab that is split into different sections for you to browse: Valkyries, Artwork, Macross Memories, Akashic Collection, and Replay Files. Valkyries will give you access to a model viewer showcasing the different mecha, which you can transform. Artwork will allow you to check out the art for each of the characters in the game, along with organization insignia, logos, key visual art, and more. Macross Memories is how you can rewatch the unlocked memories for each of the series in this game. Akashic Collection has special images and info you’ll unlock by going through the game’s levels. As for Replay Files, it’s where you’ll be storing replays for each of the different modes.

If you’re a trophy hunter, then there’s plenty for you to do in MACROSS -Shooting Insight- as you aim to add one more shiny Platinum trophy to your collection. The trophy list is split into 48 Bronze trophies, 5 Silver trophies, and a pair of Gold trophies for you to work on. What are you going to have to do for this new Platinum? Some of the objectives include scoring over 45,000,000 points in Story Mode, completing Arcade Mode in Easy difficulty or higher, completing any area in Story Mode with an S++ ranking when playing in Easy difficulty or higher, boosting your max score rate x10, completing each of the different areas in Story Mode in Easy difficulty or higher without taking any damage, unlocking each ending, as well as collecting all Macross Memories and Akashic Collection items for MACROSS Plus, MACROSS Zero, MACROSS 7, MACROSS Frontier and MACROSS Delta.
