I See Red from RedDeerGames and Whiteboard Games brings us a Rated M for Mature roguelite twin-switch shooter on Nintendo Switch. The game will place you in the role of Matthew Taurus, who has a simple goal: getting vengeance. Nothing else will matter to you now. All that you’ll see is the glowing red of your targets. Along with vengeance, you’ll also be trying to recover the memories you’ve lost. Will you be able to find out more about your past?

You’ll get to learn all of the basics during the first level of the game, which will act as its tutorial. Given the game’s nature, you’ll control your character with the left analog stick as you use the right analog stick to aim around you as needed. Attack by pressing the ZR button. Dash by pressing the L button so that you can put some distance between yourself and your enemies. While your main pistol has infinite ammo, you’ll want to grab yourself a second weapon ASAP.

 

You’ll be able to switch between weapons by pressing left and right on the D-Pad. Choose wisely since you never know when it would be best to have a short-range melee weapon at your disposal. You can use it to grab items from a distance or to hook onto an enemy to launch yourself toward them. Grabbing a large object with the hook and throwing it at an enemy is also a viable strategy.

If you grab a consumable item, you can use it by pressing the B button. Launching a grenade at a group of enemies can make a big difference in combat! As you deal damage and receive damage, you’ll start to build up rage. Once your rage is full, press in on the left and right analog sticks at the same time to unleash it. While your rage is active, you’ll receive less damage, will deal more damage with melee weapons, and you’ll even receive a speed boost. You won’t be invincible while activating your rage, but it will definitely help to make a difference!

As you play the game, you’ll be able to collect Printing Matter. This is an important resource that you’ll be able to spend on, say, the cloning machine, where you’ll be able to upgrade yourself. This is how you’ll be able to make a bit of progress here and there as you try to extend your runs and complete more objectives. You could get yourself a Chromium Epidermis, which will boost your max health by 50 and lower the damage you receive by 5. Get the Reactive Armor to reduce the damage received from explosives by 75%.

You can also add some Passives during your run to boost your overall performance. If you collect the Cardio Control Passive, you’ll get to increase your movement speed by 3, allowing you to more easily dodge attacks as you close the gap between yourself and your opponents. Get the Lunch Time Passive so that you heal your wounds by 10% whenever you clear a room. Find the Weight Lifter Passive to increase the melee damage you deal by 3.

Unfortunately, along with gameplay that feels a bit too repetitive, this release has a stuttery framerate, the game’s resolution taking a hit, and the text being a bit on the small side. I See Red is out on Nintendo Switch with a $10,99 price tag.
