Irisy Aqua from indie Otorakobo brings us a neon-infused bite-sized battle royale experience on Nintendo Switch. Check out our Irisy Aqua review!

Irisy Aqua from indie Otorakobo brings us a neon-infused bite-sized battle royale experience on Nintendo Switch. The game takes place in Eden, the great sea that contains the world’s memories as colors. There are seven girls who have the power of wielding and controlling colors, and they must battle each other to decide the fate of the world. They are El, Micha, Geil, Uril, San, Metro, and Ranpha. Each of the seven girls will have different values for their hit points (HP) and movement stats, as well as a unique skill, so be sure to try them all to find the one that best suits your playing style!

Irisy Aqua Review - 1

Each battle in Irisy Aqua will take only 3 minutes to complete, which makes it a very easy game to jump into for as little or as much time as you want to spend playing. Battles will move through a series of phases, and you must be ready to react as fast as possible to your opponents’ actions. The game offers a single-player experience – that features voice acting in Japanese – so that you can better understand the lives of each of the seven girls, as well as the online matches that will have you battling against gamers from around the world.

The main gameplay hook for Irisy Aqua is that each of the character’s colors will change in real-time during combat, switching between red, green, and blue. The arena will also be divided into RGB. Switching between the three primary colors will change the overall effectiveness of skills – more on this in a bit. The game features ongoing online seasons for you to participate in, which will offer you rewards – including titles and skill cards – based on your performance. Each season is of the limited-time variety, starting on the first day of each month. You can try to climb up the online ranking as you improve your performance.

Irisy Aqua Nintendo Switch Review - Customization

You can customize each character’s skills at the Character Customization menu. You can set up to five skills per phase. At phases 0 and 1, the specific skill for each character will be set. As phases change, you’ll see a list of skills that you can acquire. There are two types of skill cards: general skills cards and exclusive skills cards. The first ones are for skills that can be used by any character. As for the exclusive skill cards, they are only going to be used by each specific character. Each skill will have a name, effect, and range for you to consider.

As you review each skill, you’ll need to keep those in mind so that you can make the most of them. Skills will also have a cooldown period, so you won’t be able to use them over and over non-stop. There’s also a section establishing a card’s RGB status, which will affect the effectiveness of that card. Something else to keep in mind is the spawn condition since it will dictate when the card will appear. Each card will spawn once the character’s RGB exceeds the RGB value for the card.

Once you jump into action, you’ll be taking control of the character of your choice by using the left analog stick as you use your equipped skills by pressing the A, B, X, and Y buttons as needed. When you press a button for a skill, you’ll then need to set its direction and confirm it by pressing the button again. That’s all you’ll need to worry about as you move around the small arena while you try to avoid incoming attacks.
