Bloodshed from com8com1 and Headup brings us a survivors-style roguelite, Rated M for Mature, first-person shooter on Nintendo Switch. Your task is simple: do whatever it takes to defeat the evil armies of darkness. You must take on the threat of the Cult, which wants to resurrect an ancient deity that will allow them to bring about the apocalypse. You’ll just have to survive for X minutes. Simple, right? Your journey will begin at a haunted cemetery at midnight, the perfect place to take on hordes of zombies and evil creatures that go bump in the night. Just fight for your life, and everything should be fine.

Before you start a mission, you’ll be able to review your objectives, the collection of weapons, skills, and upgrades you’ve managed to find, the upgrades you can purchase with your hard-earned gems – more on this in a bit-, overall stats for the game, such as total playtime, upgrades purchased, gems collected, XP collected, enemies defeated, headshots, destructibles destroyed, damage taken, bonus collected, coins collected, weapon traits claimed, barrel kills, revives used, and more.

 

Since the game is a first-person shooter, you’ll be controlling your character by using the left analog stick as you use the right analog stick to look around and aim as needed. Since this one is a survivors-style experience, the game has auto-shooting set to on as its default, but you can also change this if you want to. You’ll jump by pressing the B button, and crouch by pressing the A button. Press the X button for a close-range melee attack. Switch between your available weapons by pressing the L and R buttons.

There are different characters to play as, and each one will allow you to make the most of their distinct abilities, playstyles, and stat values. At first, you’ll only be able to play as Flynn Steele, a sorta average guy who is more than ready to help the resistance. He can carry up to three weapons, up to three spells, and up to six passive abilities. He has 100 max HP, 0 for recovery, 0.8 agility, 0.75 ascend, 1 for might, 0 for armor, 1 for area, 1 for duration, 1 for cooldown, 1.8 for luck, 1 for evolution, 0.9 for accuracy, 1 for avarice, and 1 for peril. There are six more characters for you to unlock, so be sure to keep working on that!

As you defeat enemies, you’ll get to collect experience points, which will allow you to level up. When this happens, you’ll be able to pick from the available upgrades. This can include upgrades to the weapons you’re currently carrying, new weapons to add to your loadout for that particular run, or passive abilities that will aid you. Going back to Flynn Steele, the first lot includes weapons such as the Desert Eagle, the Machete, a powerful Shotgun, bloodthirsty ticks, a magical bear trap, or the Armor passive ability, which will decrease the damage suffered from enemy attacks by 1.

Once your run ends, you’ll be able to spend your hard-earned gems to purchase permanent upgrades that should help make subsequent runs a lot easier. You could add armor to permanently decrease damage suffered by enemy attacks, add might to permanently increase the amount of damage you inflict, or even add a Banisher that will allow you to exclude a specific item for the current run, if needed.

This one features an in-game achievements system for you to work on. Some of the objectives that you’ll need to complete include surviving the first mission of episode 1, defeating 10,000 enemies in total, defeating 4 enemies with a single sawed-off shotgun blast, destroying 500 destructibles, reaching level 30 with any character, owning a total of 5,000 gems in your account, unlocking 10 weapons, unlocking 6 spells, unlocking 6 passive abilities, purchasing 10 global upgrades, defeating the boss of the first episode, playing for two hours, claiming your first weapon trait, silencing 20 banshees, or detonating 20 explosive barrels, to name some examples.
