Jaleco Sports: Bases Loaded from Rock It Games and Sickhead Games brings us the classic two classic baseball video games in a single package. This collection includes Bases Loaded on the Nintendo Entertainment System – a.k.a. the NES – as well as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version, which, as expected, is called Super Bases Loaded. The first game was released for the NES way back in 1988, while the second one was launched for the SNES in 1991.

Bases Loaded is one that I got to play a lot back when it was released. It stood out on Nintendo’s console thanks to its TV broadcast-style presentation that made it feel, at times, like you’re watching a baseball game. It even had digitized voices! There are 12 teams to choose from and a lineup of 30 players that have different stat values for you to consider.

 

Super Bases Loaded was one of the earlier releases during the lifespan of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The North American version of the game includes a sponsorship from Ryne Sandberg, who’s displayed on the box art alongside his signature. As is the case for Bases Loaded on the NES, your team options for Super Bases Loaded will be the Atlanta Amoebas, Boston Buzzards, Chicago Cyclops, New York Mercs, Philadelphia Hawks, Washington Weasels, Hawaii Islanders, Kansas City Kings, Los Angeles Lizards, Seattle Storm, Texas Tornados, and Utah Stars.

An interesting thing is how this release handles both games. It offers you the chance to quickly change between playing the different regional versions for the Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System version – that would be Bases Loaded – and the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo Entertainment System version – Super Bases Loaded. All you need to do is press the Y button when picking between both games.
