Wake Up, Lia! from eastasiasoft and SMV Games is billed as a narrative-driven 2D precision platformer that takes place in nightmares that have been shaped by bullying. You’ll be placed in the role of the young titular character and must work your way through 20 handcrafted stages in order to recollect your lost memories so that you can find out who it is that you really are. You’ll be able to take on this journey either on your own or with a friend thanks to the local co-op option.

Since this one is a 2D precision platformer, the controls are going ot be very simple and to the point. You’ll be taking control of Lia by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you jump by pressing the X button. You can also use the L1 and R1 buttons to switch between the available tracks that will play as you try to complete each level.

 

Trophy-wise, this release features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, and since it’s from eastasiasoft, that means it’s a Cross-Buy title, so you’ll be able to download the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game to your PS5 console, and each one will have its own trophy list for you to work on. Each list will be split into 2 Bronze trophies, 4 Silver trophies, and 10 Gold trophies. What will you need to do for that shiny Platinum trophy?

Along with the trophies that will pop as you complete each of the game’s chapters, as well as the one that pops when you complete the whole thing, there are also going to be trophies for speedrunning the game and completing each chapter within a set time limit. You will also get a trophy for completing a level without dying, and for doing so in the Nightmare difficulty.

This one, unfortunately, falls a bit flat. The level design starts simple enough, with lots of very sharp hazards to avoid, but as soon as you enter the second chapter in the game, it starts to go for rage-quit madness. It starts to add blind jumps that force you to redo large segments of a level, and even twists around the camera and puts it either on a side view or sends you into upside-down territory, which is twice as bad when it does this during a platforming segment, and the controls don’t readjust. Wake up, Lia! is available as a Cross-Buy title, so your $4.99 purchase will allow you to download both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game, and each one will have its own full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you.
