Sequel OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase and Seek from FREE STYLE brings us a fast-paced asymmetrical multiplayer action game in which monsters and humans collide. The game throws you into short 3-minute sessions in which you’ll either have to run and hide as a human or spook and capture humans as a monster. If even a single human escapes, then the humans will win. If all humans are caught before the timer runs out, then the monsters will win. OBAKEIDORO is an activity that is very popular among monsters, and this is why more and more humans have been spirited away in order for them to take part in the game. Each session will either be a single monster vs. a trio of humans, or two monsters against six humans.

The game will begin with a short tutorial section to teach you the basics of what you can do when playing as a human. You’ll be taking control of your character by using the left analog stick as you try to outrun monsters as the timer runs down. If you find a good hiding spot, you can hide by pressing the X button to crouch as needed. Getting low and waiting for a monster to exit the current location is going to be a crucial part of the gameplay loop.

If a monster does spot you, there’s still one more thing you can do before it captures you and places you inside the cage: activate your lantern! Doing this will stun the monster for a little bit, which will hopefully give you enough time to escape and find a new hiding spot, or try to free any of the other humans that have been trapped inside the cage. How can you free someone from the cage? By pressing the two eyeball switches on it!

 

You will need to work alongside your fellow humans by using the new action Call, which allows you to call out to nearby allies, so that you can then use cooperative actions, such as a two-person jump, bond forger, or solo throw.

Those playing as a monster will get to hear special music when a human player is nearby. Once you do spot a human and start to chase them, you’ll be able to press the Y button to try and capture them so that you can take them into the cell. Do know that this action is not instantaneous, so you’ll need to time it just right. You can also jump by pressing the B button.

And just like the humans get a new action in Call, monsters also get a new and very useful action for OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase and Seek: Super Catch! This new action will have boosted range and visuals, allowing you to more easily capture the humans that are trying to escape from you.

As you play, you’ll get to collect many, many coins. You can use coins when you visit the shop, trading them for new lanterns for humans to equip or new monsters to play as. Each new lantern will have different stat values for speed, range, and stun, and some might even have a special extra skill! As for the additional monsters, they will also have different stat values for you to consider in range and jump, and some might even be able to move through walls! You’ll need to rank up playing as humans and monsters to be able to purchase more stuff in their respective sections of the shop.

If you’re the type of gamer who likes to 100% games, you’ll be happy to learn that OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase and Seek has a stamp system that will keep track of your overall progress as you take on match after match playing as humans and monsters alike. For humans, some objectives include hitting the switches on the cell, hiding from the monsters, stunning a monster alongside another fellow human, or raising your human rank.

For monsters, some of the objectives that you’ll be working on are capturing humans, landing super catches, capturing humans while moving through walls, raising your monster rank, winning a game without having any of the humans break away from the cell, or getting a high score in single-player. There are also additional stamps with extra objectives, and even ones you can only get during seasonal events. Getting stamps will also reward you with titles as well as boosts that can improve your characters for subsequent runs.

OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase and Seek is out on Nintendo Switch 2 with a $24.99 price tag. You can use GameShare on Nintendo Switch 2 to share and play the game with others even if they don’t own a copy of OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase and Seek. If you own the Nintendo Switch version, which is available for purchase at $19.99, then you will get an 80% discount for the Nintendo Switch version, lowering its price to $4.99. The save file from the Nintendo Switch version can be transferred to the Nintendo Switch 2 version, but not the other way around.

You can also go ahead and grab the Character DLC Bundle 1 for $9.99, which, as the name suggests, will grant you access to additional characters. The name also suggests this is the first bundle, so there are definitely going to be more DLC releases in the future. As for Character DLC Bundle 1, it includes the following:
