Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition from KOEI TECMO America and Team NINJA has now made its way to the Nintendo Switch 2. How does it fare on Nintendo’s console? The game takes place way back in 184 AD, Later Han Dynasty China. After the land has been overcome by chaos and destruction, and with the imperial dynasty on the verge of collapsing, a nameless militia soldier must fight against the many demons that now plague the famous Three Kingdoms. You’ll begin this journey as you take on the enemies that have invaded the village, burning most of it down to the ground. You have no recollection of who you are or how you got there, and you won’t have much time to think about this since you’ll have to act right away.

This Rated M for Mature action RPG was originally released in 2023 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It was later followed up by Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition in 2024, which bundled the game and its DLC into a single package. It’s now 2026, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 release.

Since this one is the Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition, you’ll get access to the base game, as well as the following DLC.

– Battle of Zhongyuan

Along with all of that, your purchase will also grant you some bonuses. Along with the base game, you’ll also get the Qinglong Armor Set, Zhuque Armor Set, and Baihu Armor Set, along with the accessory The Records of the Grand Historian, which indicates the locations of Marking Flags on the minimap. I suggest that you equip one of the bonus armor sets as soon as you receive them, so that you can take advantage of their stat boosts.

 

Before your adventure can truly begin, you’ll be given the chance to create and customize your character. You’ll start with a base character type and choose if you’re a male, female, or other character. Next will be picking an appearance template from which to work. Pick a stance, select a skin color, pick a skin type, and pick a body skin type. You can then go ahead and pick a face shape, select aging for your character, pick its eyebrows, eyes, iris, nose, mouth, ears, face decoration, and face and ear accessory.

Your regular attacks are set to the Y button, and you can lock onto an enemy by pressing in on the right analog stick. The X button can be used for spirit attacks. Spirit attacks are going to be slower, but they will deal more spirit damage, which can reduce an enemy’s spirit gauge. Press the ZL button to aim your ranged weapon as needed. If you want to use an item, you can press up on the D-Pad. Switch between your available weapons by pressing left and right on the D-Pad.

Morale will be important since it will affect your strength in battle. The good news? This will also apply to your enemies! If your morale is higher than that of your enemy, then you’ll be able to take on stronger enemies with greater ease. If an enemy’s morale is higher than yours, then you’ll need to pay attention to their threat level so that you can always know what it is that you’re getting yourself into.

You will end up losing your morale points and half of your Genuine Qi when you are killed by an enemy. The morale rank of the enemy that killed you will also increase. Regain the lost Genuine Qi and morale points by defeating the same enemy. And yes, the same goes for being defeated by a boss! Unfortunately, if you die again while trying to regain your lost Genuine Qi and morale points, then they will be gone for good.

Any battle flags that you find along the way should be raised since it will increase your fortitude rank. This will make it so that your morale when killed does not go below your fortitude rank. You can also rest at a battle flag to recover your HP and uses of the Dragon’s Cure Pot, which you can use to heal your wounds. It’s also at battle flags that you’ll get to level up.

Genuine Qi will act as the experience points in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition. You can use Genuine Qi to boost your character’s Wood Virtue, Fire Virtue, Earth Virtue, Metal Virtue, and Water Virtue. Wood Virtue will affect HP as well as how much spirit is lost when you’re attacked. Fire Virtue will affect how much spirit is gained when attacking and the amount of spirit that is consumed by Martial Arts – more on these in a bit. Earth Virtue will affect the equipment weight limit as well as the spirit you can gain when you manage to deflect an attack. Metal Virtue affects the duration that a high level of spirit can be maintained, and the spirit that is consumed by Wizardry spells. As for Water Virtue, it will affect how easily enemies can detect you and the amount of spirit consumed when deflecting.

Wizardry spells are split between the Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water Phases, and you’ll need to unlock spells based on how you level up each of the aforementioned Five Virtues. Say you level up the Wood Virtue a few times. If that’s the case, then you’ll be able to unlock the Lightning Bolt Wizardry spell, as well as the Unstoppable Force Wizardry spell. The Lightning Bolt Wizardry spell will call down a bolt of lightning on a locked-on target or on a point at a certain distance in front of you. The Unstoppable Force Wizardry spell will increase automatic recovery during low spirit and decrease automatic depletion during high spirit.

You will also gain access to Martial Arts. These are powerful abilities that will consume some of your spirit upon using them, so you’ll need to balance them out so that you don’t end up in burnout, leaving yourself completely open to a deadly attack. Unlike Wizardry spells, which are unlocked as you level up the Five Virtues, Martial Arts are tied to melee weapons, with each one having at least one Martial Art for you to make good use of. There are 15+ melee weapon types, so be sure to try them all as you find the right one for your playing style, as well as the ones with the best Martial Arts to complement your plans!

As you go through each area, you’ll be able to collect new pieces of equipment to aid you on your mission. You can gain new melee weapons, new ranged weapons, additional pieces of armor to protect yourself from harm, as well as accessories that can boost your stats or add some bonus protections. You can customize your experience and pick how the game’s graphics will be handled. Your two options are to have the game prioritize a higher framerate, or to have it prioritize resolution. Do know that the prioritize resolution option is not going to be available when playing in Portable or Handheld Mode. Is the change in resolution noticeable? Yes, if you’ve played the PlayStation 5 version of the game. But the fact that you can play this big adventure at home or on the go with a solid framerate is definitely worth the small trade off. Just, you know, don’t bother to worry too much about the hair. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 3.
