Archerio from Webnetic is a fantasy-themed 3D roguelike archery game on Nintendo Switch. As you move your character around the arena, it will automatically attack opponents when not moving. This does mean that you’ll need to be quick on your feet as you position yourself in the best spot possible to attack enemies at a steady pace while also being able to avoid their attacks.

You’ll need to make the most of your character’s build for each run, as you try to outsmart and outbattle your enemies and the deadly bosses that will pop up every now and then. Pay attention to the movement and attack patterns of each one so that you can find how to best counter them during each wave. Learn from your mistakes, find the right combination of skills and abilities to take on each challenge, and do it all over again.
As expected, the first set of levels in the game will be its tutorial segment, so that you can get the hang of things. Acherio can be played by using either the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con or by making the most of the console’s touchscreen when playing in Portable or Tabletop Mode, or if you’re taking Hex Park for a spin on a Nintendo Switch Lite console.

If you do go with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, you’ll be using the left analog stick to move your character around the screen as you try to avoid incoming attacks and colliding with enemies. As mentioned before, you will only be able to attack when you’re not moving, so you’ll need to balance running away from enemies and avoiding their attacks with using your attacks to drain their HP before they manage to defeat you.
As you progress through a run, you’ll get to level up from defeating enemies and collecting experience points. When you do level up, you’ll get to pick an upgrade from the available options, which could be of one of a variety of rarity grades. As expected, the higher an upgrade’s grade, the more useful it’s going to be!

Some examples of the upgrades you can get for your run include Critical Strike, which will boost the damage of some attacks; Piercing Strike, which will make your attacks pierce through your enemies; Close Combat, which lowers your attack range while considerably increasing attack damage and speed; Heal, which will heal some of your lost health; Poison Orbs, which will cast some circling poison orbs around you; and Major Swiftness, which will increase attack speed. You can also find chest rewards along the way, which will grant you special abilities, or even the chance of healing a chunk of your lost health.

This does mean that you’ll need to be quick on your feet as you position yourself in the best spot possible to attack enemies at a steady pace while also being able to avoid their attacks. It offers a simple gameplay loop that, if you’re a fan of roguelike games, will keep you busy for a bit.

As you progress further and further, you’ll run into healing rooms where you will be able to recover some of your lost health or boost your max HP, open up special treasure chests with powerful abilities – with some that will require that you sacrifice some of your max HP – and even boss fights, for which you’ll need to pay attention and learn theior movement and attack patterns, or else you’ll be quickly destroyed. Archerio is out on Nintendo Switch with a $6.99 price tag.
