Sequel Scott Whiskers: the Search for the Golden Cat Switch Review - 2

Sequel Scott Whiskers: the Search for the Golden Cat from Fancy Factory brings us another point and click adventure game on Nintendo Switch. While on vacation, a small village deep in the Central American jungle seeks your help since, as the title suggests, there’s another feline that has gone missing. The sacred golden cat relic of Santo Toma has been shattered by lightning and scattered around the area, leading to a ton of misfortune and failed harvests. It’s now up to you to locate all of the golden cat’s pieces as you explore the roughly 50 high-resolution locations around this ancient Mayan village, so that you can save the day before it’s too late.

As was the case for Scott Whiskers in: the Search for Mr. Fumbleclaw, Fancy Factory took Scott Whiskers: the Search for the Golden Cat to Kickstarter, this time around also seeking €7,000 in funding to cover the cost of voice acting and potentially adding localization for some extra languages. After the crowdfunding campaign ended, and thanks to support from 250+ backers, the project raised almost €11,000, which was good enough for the first objective, but fell short of the second one, so we’re getting voice acting and text in English and German.

You’ll once again be jumping into the shoes of Scott Whiskers as you use the left analog stick to walk around, interacting with everything and everyone around you by pressing the A button – as one does when taking on a point and click adventure game. A cursor can be moved with the right analog stick, and as was the case last time, you must press the L button to change the type of interaction you want to perform.

Collecting items is part of the point and click adventure game loop, and so is adding them to your inventory so that you can use them to solve the puzzles that you’ll run into. To make things easier on you, you can always press down on the D-Pad so that the game instantly highlights all of the hotspots that you can interact with, as well as the type of interaction that you can perform.

And just like its prequel, you can press the ZL button to use the in-game help system, so that you can get some pointers as to what to do next during your adventure. If you only want a friendly reminder of what it is that you’re working on, you can press left on the D-Pad to open up your journal.
